Cobra Computer

Would be possible to install a 94-95 Cobra computer in my 95 gt 5 speed? I have the following mods and can't tune in a decent idle. I hope that the Cobra computer would correct this. Am I on the right track here?

Powerdyne SC with 2.6" pulley
Home made CAI
Cobra intake
GT40p heads
Autolite 764 plugs gapped .040
190 lph fuel pump
Fuel management system
Steady #19 cam
1.6 roller rockers
24lb. FMS injectors
C & L 73mm MAF with 24lb sensor tube
BBK 65mm throttle body
BBK shorty headers - very tight with the plugs
Two cat H pipe
Magaflow cat backs
3.73 rear

I been running the SC and cat backs for a few years. The balance of the mods were added in the past 4 months.

I agree with hairy. Hoevever, if you have a cobra cpu sitting around or can get one really cheap then go that route. Dont go and buy one cuz it will cost about the same in the end, if you get a decent deal. As for the maf, you will need the 19# sample tube. THe GT's and cobras had the same MAF's but the cobra cpu was calibrated for 24# inj. while the GT was setup for 19#'s. If you were to just stick a cobra cpu in there then your setup would be calibrated for 30# injectors so you need the smaller sample tube to bring everything down a notch....hope that makes sense.

Well, You may not know it but you have a Cobra pcm in your GT at this very moment.

Speaking from a hardware point of view that is.

The Cobra & GT share the same pcm but it is the calibration file (software) that is different.

A Tweecer would allow you to load the Cobra cal file in your original pcm thus making it the same as a Cobra pcm.

How about that!

Thanks for the help

I received and installed the Cobra computer and a 19lb C & L sample tube today and it's idling and running great, I noticed that I had the wrong sample tube installed prior, It had a blue color code and thats for 93 and earlier 24lb applications. So it was either installing the correct sample tube or the Cobra computer that straighten it out.

The Steeda #19 cam has a lopey sounding idle which I wanted. It idles with 14 inches of vacuum. I haven't noticed any lost of low end torque. It has changed my attitude, now I enjoy driving the car.

That is great news and I'm glad it worked out so good for you.

The values in the J4J1 are better for drivability with mods like you have

However

The values in the T4M0 are more aggressive and it will make a bit more power

I found that the power was a bit soft with the basic J4J1 values when I first loaded the file but a little tweec to the spark & fuel tables restored the lost power.

You can have the best of both (drivability & max power) with a chip or tuning device.

BTW, do you have any dyno or strip numbers with your new combo? If not at least give a few details about how the Powerdyne has worked out with the new parts. Maybe a before & after kinda thing.

You might seriously want to consider getting the tweecer. I myself did an A9L swap. Which basically means I rewired the computer harness to accept a 93 A9l computer.

The cobra computer does have a slightly better performance program but, both the GT and Cobra computer pull timming out when you shift and at high rpm, thus killing your horsepower. The only way around it is to go for the tweecer or do the A9L swap.
