I've planning on buying a cobra rear bumper in the next few days for my '90 GT. Now Cervinis makes one for about $250, but if you look online or flip around pages in 5.0 Mustang magazines you can find Cobra Rear Bumpers for cheaper like say, $170. Can anyone tell me if theres a difference in material being used for these different products? Whats the better buy? Opinions needed. Thanks, John.

Design Concepts Cobra Rear Bumper is Exactly the same as Cervinis. Identical. Ive seen both and they are 100% identical. Only difference is the price. Cervinis is top notch stuff, but I love Design Concepts. There just as good and a heck of a lot cheaper. If you wanna save money go this route.

You mean urethane? Polyurethane is an oil based floor finish. (just bustin')

There's more too it than how it looks and what's it's made out of. Different companies use different chemicals to get them out of the molds they are cast in, which don't always wash off easily and cause adherence problems for paint. I made this mistake with an aftermarket GT front bumper cover, no matter what we cleaned it with it didn't paint up well. It's bubbling as I type. You get what you pay for; I've never had trouble getting paint to stick to a Cervinis part. Bolts on with a perfect fit, and requires minimal prep before shooting it. I've heard good and bad things about Design Concepts, so they may be hit or miss. Of course, it could just be labor mistakes accounting for the bad stories, but I prefer to be safe over sorry. Just my $.02- if you are pressed for cash I guess it's worth a gamble though. Good luck

I had a problem with my Cervini's bumper. The passenger rear bolt pulled out of the urethane, and is not repairable because the small about of material that is in that location. I need to replace it, but I dont really have an extra 250.00 to spend on the bumper, plus the shipping it will cost since it is freight only.

DC's fiberglass parts are not as good as Cervini's. I have not seen any of DC's urethane parts, but doubt they are as good either.

Do you mean the bolt pulled through the hole? Very easy fix for that: remove bolt, add washer, reinstall bolt. Don't mean no disrespect to you, but I doubt this problem was caused by Cervini's.

I just bought a cobra kit (with bumper) and Mach 1 hood from ABC exclusive.
For the money the parts arent bad but I did have to trim some of the urethane here and there to get it to fit and I still have about an 1/8 inch gap on the passenger side of where the bumper meets the body.
I have nothing to compare this kit to but I expected better.
They also left out some instructions and the instructions that were included were kind of basic. I emailed and they were good about responding with the new set of instructions but they didnt address some of the other minor issues I had. I also ordered a Saleen wing from them at the same time. I had to drill alot on the hatch to get it to fit because it doesnt use the stock mounting locations and the fiberglass looks paper thin. Id stay away from their wings.
I just got the car back from the body shop and the paint looks awesome! I dont think they had to do anything special to prepare the parts. The body shop was impressed with the hood although... When I received it, it had some minor scratches in it. It was packaged very well and the packaging was fully intact. This means they shipped me a scratched hood. It wasnt terrible but if I buy a new part- I expect new quality!
If I had it to do over again, Id spend a few extra bucks and go with a Cervinis.

As far as paint sticking, that is all in the prep work and type of primer used. There are different primers for different types of materials. Cervini's is supposed to be the best of the best, better than factory parts, so they ask maby a little too much for thier parts. Is it worth it? Depends on what you want. I am also looking into a Cobra front and back bumper as well as skirts. The Cervini's kit that includes the wing is a little over a grand, mine isn't a showcar, so I might go with a cheaper rought, but I want it to look right at the same time.

dont think you will notice too much of a difference between cervini's cobra bumper and another decent brand one, as long as you dont get a real cheapo, then main problem was with hoods alot of other brands you will have to make it fit, or fit crappy, thats why cervini's is place of choice to most stangers! :nice:

Actually the bolt did pull through the urethane in that one spot. The reason that I dont particularly care for the bumper that I have right now is that the urethane in that area. It kinda looks like the urethane was thin in that part of the mold and missed some of the mold completely. Possilby a quality issue on this particular bumper, but the customer service was not too great. They didn't even respond to emails about it, I ended up having to call them, and since I told them it did this after the bumper was painted they bscially said "oh WEll". There is not enough material to put a bolt there to keep another from pulling through, and I have spoken to a couple body shops and they said that because of where it is pulled through the the small amount of material in the area, it will probably do the exact same thing again even if I do get it plasti-welded.

Here are a few pics of what mine did:
