Custom "X" pipe is on!

Just called the shop and they said my car is ready. They installed a custom no cat "X" pipe for only $125 total including tax and all. They used a standard purchased actual "X" piece and welded the other pieces to it. Kept the stock SS GT mufflers and the guy says it sounds great. Can't wait till I get off and hear it!

Cool i did pretty much the same with mine.....offroad x with stock mufflers and it really does sound great. Everyone is suprised when i tell them its with stock mufflers.

Not bad for a mid pipe. I paid 150 for my BBK Shorty o/r h and loved the way it sounded. You'r going to be the same when you get your car back.

Well... I got it back. They were already closed, and I was kinda dissapointed.

1. Two of the cats were still on there, despite my explicit instructions.
2. The up and down part of my driver's side electric seat doesn't work now.
3. There is an exhaust leak on the passengers side just behind the first cat.
4. It diesn't appear that they used a prefabricated "X" piece like they showed me on the first car that they used as an example.

Now I've got to take it back and bitch. What a bummer.

1. they might have left the 'precats' on there, so therefore they might not be explicitly wrong
2. no idea how they broke that
3. yep
4. not sure how much it matters, if at all (other than the fact that that's what they told you they were going to do).. make sure there's some kind of coading on this thing, so all their welds don't rust up right away

1. Yeah... maybe you're right, since I didn't specify. I should know this since I'm in the business of detailed design of steel structures. If you don't give explicit detailed instructions something is going to get fu_ked up. He would had had to un-bolt the stock mid pipe to cut the pre-cats off. Maybe that's why he did it that way. I wonder how restrictive these things are?

2. Well... there was a Rolling Rock bottle under the seat [Don't ask] and I assume the guy tried to lower the seat when he got in.

Had I known what I know now, I would have simply bought an off-road pipe and installed it myself. I hate letting other people work on my baby.

Gotta love shops My car has never, and will never go to any shops.. except the one I work at, but I'm the only one who works on it there. Sorry to hear about what happened... The shop is probably going to deny everything too which is the sad part.

Well... The suckey part is that I'm working at the plant 12 hours a day 7 days a week until the outage is over. I had to jump through some hoops to get a ride today and leave it all day. The plant is an hour away and about a 100 mile round trip. So now I've got to make arrangements AGAIN

I would think that the first thing you would do when you did ANY exhaust work is crank the car and listen for exhaust leaks. Competence is on the wane in this country. The whole reason I went to these people is that I'd seen their work before and it looked good.

I'll keep you posted after I call them tomorrow.

i think they would have had to unbolt it anyways to weld up the x right? unless he used some clamps, then that's probably where your leak is

as for coating... since i'm pretty cheap, i'd probably sand it down and use some high temp paint, preferably an anti-rust kind... that'd work for a good while i'd think

as for people... they're lazy and stupid... don't trust anyone who doesn't come w/ high recommendations or experience
