destroked 302?

Strip the car of all excess weight, use 4.10 gears or better and never drive it on the street. A street motor that has to wind way high is not fun to drive - no torque to get you off the line. That's the only way to come close to making it work.

If it was a such a great idea, no one would ever buy a stroker kit.

lol

here is a great combo!

get an older 66-68 289 block, cuz they are strong.

get a 2.87" stroke crank
a set of 5.115" rods
and some 289 pistons!

now, you have a 289.

why would ford have stroked it??? maybe, for more power??

your freind is on crack. a 347 will make more hp, and have more torque, all things being equal.
save your money, and put it into something real.........

good luck!

Joe and everyone is right on - a high revver has its place, but I would NOT want one on the street.

If you have a specialty vehicle, autoX, etc, it could be fun. I still like gobs of low-end torque. :D

make no mistake here guys i told him pretty much the same thing you guys are saying he is just the stubborn type so i decided to get a few opinions from non biased partys he still says that with a power adder and the right gear it could go good i dunno i think he is a retard but what do you want from an ex ricer :damnit:

I think your friend (if this is really your friend...;) ) has a lot to learn. He has somewhat the right idea, but he's only thinking of the bottom end. The hard part to build is the valvetrain with a pushrod enigne. A 302 is a short stroke motor, known as an undersquared motor. 4" bore x 3" stroke) This mean there is more bore than stroke. Not until you get to a 402 (4" bore x 4" stroke") and that is a squared engine, oversquare would be like a 418+ winsor. Generally undersquare is good for HP, and oversquare is good for torque, but heads, cams, and all influince these greatly. If he wants a revving motor, he should stick to the 302, put in lightweight rods and pistons, balance everything, lightweight valves, pushrods, rockers, strong springs and a whole lot of know-how.

I think Jason typed the over and undersquare stuff backwards (just noting it for clarity to help with debates that will occur on this thread). Oversquare is a larger Bore than stroke; undersquare is a smaller bore than stroke.

I liked what he had to say in that post - the entire motor, breathing, etc all need to be considered.
