Do we need that extra weight on our rear?

Mounted to the bottom of our rears is a cast iron weight of some sort. What purpose does it serve? Has anyone here ran without it?

Ton's of people are running without it, including me. It's original purpose is to provide vibration dampening for the stock gearing. If you've swapped gears, it's worthless. Most of the time, it's worthless even with the stock gears. I'm still running stock gearing and haven't had any problems since I scrapped it over a year ago.

Same here, mine was removed when i put gears in...only thing i would mention...Thers a bracket thats bolted along with the "dogbone" and goes up over the rear, its the stop for your pinion snubber...if you remove the dogbone. keep that bracket so the snubber still hits correctly..

Remove it. Its another part similar to the EGR and smog pump that is just hippie proproganda................get rid of it and don't think twice about it.

Why remove weight over the rear wheels? I spin enough as it is and am not even heavily modded. I can see it if you road race but why remove it if you drag.

i only run a quarter tank at a time..so much more fun to drive...i am taking that thing off pronto! cobra is up in barn now for winter mod makeover

Thanks, I took off the cast iron weight and used some 3/8 bolts to mount up that bumper plate.
