Does this bar make this K-Member stronger or weaker?

I noticed that the UPR K-member -- http://www.uprproducts.com/shopping/shopexd.asp?id=299 has a tube or bar that runs from the lower tubing to the top of the engine mounts. Does that really make a difference or is it just a design change so they can call it their own? I know that the MM has better geometry but sticking strictly to strength, does the bar do anything that would be considered better?
