If you are planning any sort of mods down the road, I suggest a 3.27 or 3.55.
I hate my 3.73s and 5-spd.

I just don't like buzzing the tach on the interstate. Feels like I've got an engine brake when I let out of the throttle....like you're always searching for another gear. Not my cup of tea.I used to drive mine on the highway with 4:30s makes me laugh to hear you guys hating on 3:73s and 4:10s haha

They'll go on the same as your stockers. Same length too. Use a little blue Loctite and you're good to go. The reason for the Allen head bolts is because the inner diameter of the crank pulley is small enough that it would make contact with the standard hex head bolts they're replacing.stupid question but I just got my used U/D pulley set and the guy didn't include the 4 allen head bolts for the crank. I'll just get them at Tru Value down the street. If I remember, they are 3/8" 1 inch long? No washers . No loctite and 20 ft. lbs. on all the bolts? Went to the March site and their instructions suck, they don't list the size bolts or amount to torque them.
No doubt the best bang for the buck is probably swapping out to a lower gear set, especially in an AOD.Couple of suggestions. Go with at least a 3 .73 or 4.10's with the AOD. For gears, I would get the FMS set with the deluxe install kit. I think LMRS sells the entire kit- gears, install kit, oil and friction modifier for a decent price. Unless you are very confident in your mechanical ability let someone who is reputable and has experience do the install as it takes specialized tools for a proper install. While the axles are out might as well inspect the seals and bearings. The other alternative is looking on the classifieds or CL for an entire rear end with the gears already installed.
Thanks guys for the responses, the new alternator is in. I think I'm going to save up for gears instead, I've got an auto trans with 2.73's so those $60 for the pulleys will be better spent toward some nice gears.
Screw the pullys! If you aint got gears yet, DO IT. That is THE best SOTP mod you can do. ( other than a power adder of course) And yes if you have to go any long distances, do the .373's. But from personal experience, the .410's are a ton of fun in the AOD. And it sucks your not local. Guy here buys the gear set from FRPP and installs them for 300.

Mike, you're in S.Fla, I'm in Pembroke Pines: who would you recommend for the gear install?
Maybe I would use the same person/shop dor installing my Auburn Posi Unit.
Hey friend, good luck on the gears. I agree, I think you'll like the gear swap right away....

I disagree. AOD's need a lower gear. 3.73's are perfect if you do a lot of highway driving. Off the top of my head the final drive is like .67 on the AOD? Here is a good gear/ rpm speed calculator. I think the difference in 3.73 to 4.10 at 70 mph is like 200 rpm. 2400-2600. Just know you will use the same speedo gear for anything 3.55 and numerically higher, so it will not be 100% accurate. Does he have an AOD? I thought i reread the post and didn't see mention of a trans?

What do you HATE about your 3:73's and the T-5, please elaborated...
EDIT: OK, I read up the thread abit. I see where you mentined some points about your other car. i assume it had T-5 and 3:73's.
[/quote]Damnit, I can tell it already that it won't be long before I'm looking for V2's again. And I promised myself when I bought this one August 2012 I was keeping THIS one stock.![]()
Hey Mike, I am a little ways off from the gear install. I am in the project planning stage now. I am still trying to work thru a nose swap BACK to 86 from the Areo. Still researching the possibilites of keeping the 93 fenders and wells for a custom mating to the foureyed GT nose. Found a few options on other forum though they are short on detailed specs to accomplish. It's the fender extensions that I understand need to be cut and fiberglassed back to specs-out. Honestly, this is driving me nuts, because I'm ready to go to paint as soon as the front is complete.
I'm leaning towards 3:55's with hope for a comprimise in both senarios. I won'y hit the track, and will see a bit of highway cruising. I have a vert and drop the top often.
I have a set of both 3:27's and the 3:55's in my storage. Not sure what's in my 86 stock???? have to Let's be in touch, check. prob. 3:27's now.
Thanks sincerely for the shop referals. I will look into them - I head a lot about M Specialties...
Let's be in touch,
Dwayne
