Well I think we have all seen that car craft articale...402 FW HP on a stock bottom 302 ...think that may be a little of but I am going that route bc of price...So I know I need the heads and a set of long tubes..was thinking BBK long tubes because of price..with bbk x-pipe and some catback...now here is where I need your help guys...
(please note car is a speed density 88gt efi)

What rocker arms should I use..wich of the 165cc AFR heads should I choose..

What cam can I use that will give a slitly rough idel..good power and keep streetability. What type of gain am I looking at?

What upper and lower intake should I use..what type of gain will I see?

**Sorry for the typing it was a long day at work..washed 41 Infinitis lol**

Will I need to convert to mass air to accomplish this task? Would it be cheaper to go carb and how will that change streetability and power?

Will that stock tranny hold the power this is going to put down or should I source a lightly used tko 500 or other?

Last but not least..what other things should I look at as far as fuel, spark and drivline?

Thanks for the help guys and I know it has probably been discussed alot before..looked over some posts about the car craft writeup and didn't find what I was looking for...:SNSign:

all i know about sd is be careful with the cam too much lift will reak havoc with the computer(not enough vaccum) do a search to find more, you may want to consider a conversion to mass air, from what i understand a blower is a better way to go with the speed density cars, than the head cam and intake, like i said search and there is a ton of info, dagger has a coupla write ups and one is a maf conversion, gl

Lift is not what gives speed density computers fits, it's duration and lobe seperetion that throw off the vacuum signal. I've been running a h/c/i intake setup with speed density for about three years now, runs just fine, other than the occasional hunting idle. Runs 12.50's with stock injectors and fuel pump. I am however, switching to mass air in the near future so i can run a more aggressive cam. I'm now looking for low 12's...

Well..thanks for the replies and sorry it has taken so long for me to get back...humm..I think we have decided to go with a carb motor now ...just eprsonal pref I guess...So now I need to figure out what cam intak and carb will to best with these heads....I plan to change to 1.7 rockers and I guess a hardened push rod....we are also going to chenge to maybe a keith black piston for saftey reasons since it is an older motor...I figure I will want to try and keep stock specs on those...any opinions or advice anyone?

Well we decided to go carb for personal pref I guess...what intake and cam should I put with these heads anyone? I think we may switch to keith black pistons just bc of mileage on the motor..and will be using 1.7 rockers....what do you guys think?

I can't help with the carb set up but there are a couple of cams you can use with speed density. The crower 15510 and 511 plus a couple of Comp cams that will work. The 268hr and maybe the xr I think. You can also run 24# injectors with the speed density. At least I didn't have any problems.

Nice job going to carb:nice: If you drive alot on the street in the off-idle range through 4-5k and wont be spinning it to 6k+ I would use a performer rpm, will give you all you need on the low end and will pull really hard to 6000 where these dual planes start to fall off compared to a single plane like a vic jr. Look at a speed demon 650 holley, tune it right and it will rock and pull really hard for you. As faras the cam I would highly suggest looking into a custom ground cam from someone like ed curtis. Picking an off the shelf cam is good for most people but your spending a goo amount of money and you should maximize it. Skimping on a cam would be cheating yourself. As for the trans, the t-5 doesnt like hard launches on a good tire, on the street is fine your gonna blow the tire off through 3rd gear anyway.:D Will make for a great combo. If you never had a motor like this well you will fall in love.

One last thing on the camshaft dont be real concerned about max valve lift when thinking about piston to valve clearance, it's the overlap you must be concerned with. Have a read here http://sbftech.com/index.php/topic,57.0.html

LOL awesome reply..I actually decided on that exact intake and carb today while killing time at work! Crazy huh...so should I swap the pistons or do you guys think they will last? What specs should I have the cam grind done to and whit (if I even need to change them) rockers would you run? 1.6 or 1.7? You guys have been awesome help so far and I have just about got it all peiced together...some people are saying use a b303 cam but if a custom grind is fair priced I may do just that!

I got my cam $325 thru ed curtis I also picked up a set of his valve $125 springs. running pig rich and untuned I put down 322hp/343tq (347ci). if you want to see big numbers custom cam and good supporting parts is the way to go.

Talked to a local Stang guru and he suggested an F cam from ford..said it would match really well to the combo I have picked out....he tunes mustangs for a living so I figure he knows somethin at least..what do you guys think?

I would stay injected if I were you , but to each his own , the F cam might have clearance problems because its got a pretty long duration compared to alot of the other cams choices available ......so check for that if you go with that cam .............

We for sure want to go carb...but I am not sure about the clearence...its stock bottom end 1.6 rockers stock piston afr 165cc heads ..should the clearence be a issue?
