Progress Thread Dynacorn Door Shell To Front Fender Fit...yikes!

Ok so I'm all excited to get my new Dynacorn door lined up so I installed the factory front fender and......E-GADS to my surprise the plane between the fender and the door is way off.

Anyone ever seen this? I have a factory door on the pass side so I made a template and compared and I think it's actually the factory fender that's off. The thing is there's quite alot of structure along that seam on the fender so how the heck do I fix this??

Any suggestions are very welcome guys.

Wow ,that is worst i have seen yet .Not so sure its the fender though .It looks like the door has a lot of arch .Do you have an old door to check the fender against ? If they were off just a little you can carefully hit on the back side of the edge of the low spot to bring it up but that is a lot.
It is possible the fender is flat .If it was hit at the upper line of the indent running down the fender it could be smashed in.
Usually the fitting problem is the gap between the door and fender .

look at the inner structure and see if there is damage ,wrinkles or crushing.

I took the fender off and looked. No damage at all. Pass side door is a factory door and doesn't seem to have as much curve. The Dynacorn door shell structure appears all good though so unless the door shell curve that the skin follows is out of whack??? I'm perplexed.

Try making a pattern from your good fender and check it with this one ,it is possible the fender is pushed in.

That door has way to much arch in my opinion.

I don't think it's the fender. here's a pic of the car before I started stripping it. Same front fender mated to a factory door (door was not original to car and had a ton of rot along the bottom thus the swap). I paid more money for what I was thinking would be a better product. Hoping CJ Pony Parts doesn't leave me hanging. I'll keep you posted on that.

You might try this test on the door at the fender end ,take a straight edge from to top point to the bottom edge of the new door . The highest point should be 2 inches . In the center of the door between the two points that become the c scoop in the quarter should be 1 3/8 inches .I know this was a good fitting door it was just rotted at the bottom.

Thanks Horse....I checked those dimensions on the Dynacorn shell. I have about 2 1/8" on the high spot but the center of the c-scoop measures pretty much the 1 3/8" you mentioned. I had my wife help me by trying to physically align the leading edge of the door with the trailing edge of the fender while removed from the car and there's just no way it's going to mate up along the entire line. I'm starting to wonder again if maybe somehow the fender is out. Very confusing to say the least. I will put up some pics tomorrow.

BTW just wanted to let you all know that CJPP is not backing away from this. I'm feeling a good vibe from them if this in fact turns out to be the Dynacorn door. Something here is off though....just have to figure it out.

If the measurements are that close on the door i believe it has to be the fender ,be nice if you had another one to check.

It does look like the front of the door is arched a bit much but It looks like the back of the door lines up pretty good with the quarter panel. It also looks like the door could stand to be adjusted in a bit more at the front hinges cause the top and bottom of the door is sticking out a bit from the looks of you photo. I would adjust the front hinges in a little which will shorten that gap a little, then leaving the fender bolted at the top and bottom shim the fender at the stud that comes thru and under the kick panel. this will arch the fender a little. You may also check the bottom fender bolt to see if it is shimmed and remove a few to give you a little more arch. Try this before you go thru all the headache of taking it back off and shipping it back to CJs.

I haven't done any adjustments at all to the hinges at this point. Just hung the door and had a moment when I looked at that seam. Something is off here. The dimensions Horse gave me are pretty close but the old fender seemed to fit very well which is the same fender going back on.

Horse do you happen to have a spare fender around where you could lay a string across it (see pic) and give me those dimensions from peak to string etc? I have attached a pic of the inside of the fender going back on. There's one small area of damage near the bottom which you can see but I don't think that would be enough to affect the radius of the arch on the fender.

I measured the door from the top point to the bottom edge ,it is 21 1/2 inches and marked that measurement over to the fender. Using a straight edge again from the point on the fender to the
21 1/2 inch mark , the high point is 2 1/8 inch

I marked the center of the scoop between the points and it measures
1 1/4 inch

That seems to be just about right on with the Dynacorn door so it must be the fender .

Thanks Horse. I'm trying to line up a new fender and will let you know. May remove the pass side door which is a factory door and compare side by side with the Dynacorn. Raining here today so I have to wait until I can get it outside as my garage is too tight for door removal on both sides.

The thing is if you look at the pic of the car before I started stripping it you can see the fender and door alignment was very nice. Maybe the old door and fender were reworked to fit or something. The measurements from the Dynacorn door seem to be close though. I am really confused but there's something amiss here.

I tried to do a compare between the door and fender on your car and my car ,it really looks like your fender is pushed in, in between the two red lines .
