WA
I know this has been talked about before, and I've done a search. Maybe all was lost when the site crashed earlier this year. I'll be moving to WA next summer and am wondering on the Emission's testing procedure. Do they do a visual, tail pipe, load test? Just trying to get an idea of what they look for. Mostly concerned with aftermarket mods, engine, exhaust, intake, turbo's, etc...

On a Fox, they will check the gas cap, then have you pull it onto the dyno, and they will have you drive it at 20-25mph in 2nd or 3rd and sniff it. Then, they will have you let it idle and sniff it again. Then they hand you a pass slip and send you on yor way. Very easy to pass WA.

yup..96 and newer, dont even need cats (well, you DO legally...but it will pass without 'em) as long as its chipped or flashed. They dont inspect. No popping the hood unless your cigar lighter port dont work, they go right to the battery.

The car's a 91 fox, no codes flashing on the car. I did find the WA emissions web site, but doesn't really answer the questions, or I just didn't look in the right spot. Thanks for the reply's.

Being a 91 they'll put the sniffer on it, and a gas cap check. As long as you have cats in good working order you shouldn't have any problems. Where in WA you moving to?

Cat's are in place, should be ok than, thanks. On the gas cap check, are they just looking to see if it's there, or are they looking to see a sealed fuel system? Probably be over in the Poulsbo, Silverdale, Bremerton area.

I live in Silverdale. I haven't had to get an emissions test. i have a 95 GT with no cats.(but it has issues). I have had no problems with anyone questioning it. I do believe Kitsap County doesn't require emissions testing, but don't quote me on that.

The gas cap check is to make sure the system is pressurized and not leaking fumes into the air. Even if it fails, there are ways of still getting your car registered, they are explained on the back of your emissions test results.

use 3rd gear..the tech told me they sniff better that way  I went through no problem in 3rd and I was worried.

he just said to make sure I do it in third next time as well, shouldnt matter.. but hey free advice can be a good thing, especailly when your at the station being sniffed!
