Man shift work is a pain in the ass. Starting tomorrow through next week I am on nights. Not so sure I like it.

Anyway I am going to test fit the rear inner quarter panels in the morning. Hopefully the speakers fit now that I did a 5x7 to 6.5 conversion.

Once all this interior stuff has been nailed down I want to install a fuse/relay box under the hood. The box from a mini looks like a decent piece. The hope is to cleanup some of the extra junk that I have and will wire in. One of the big issues I have with my current build is some of the cobbled together relay circuits that got re-purposed over and over. Such is a day in the life of Frankenstang....
I have a q45 90mm tb coming to replace the 75mm on the m90 hopefully this will alleviate some of the restriction I see at high rpm.

I did not get as much done today as I would have liked... I slept in instead:D

I did however install the subwoofer and install the box to body bracket on the front. The "backrest portion" will hold the back of the box down...... with another angle bracket. I don't want a 40lb box of death flying around in an accident.

Now that this is done I can start making things permanent, the driver side of things is almost done. Just need to adjust passenger rear quarter window one last time before buttoning that side up.

You quickly forget how time consuming all the little stuff is. Re-pinning switch sockets that are broken, running speaker wires, test fitting custom speakers (no 5x7 for me)... wow all morning I tell ya.

But the end result looks pretty decent. Just the driver side and the "backrest" is not bolted in yet just sitting there for a visual.

don't mind the mess, I knocked my work bin over....

Thanks Dave it's been alot of work, especially since I don't have a shop or garage. Nothing like the restorations you have been able to achieve, but I'm learning and that's what matters.

BTW Dave when I start the trunk area, should I dye the trunk carpet or recover them with the black felt I have? I know dying them would be most correct but covering them would fix some of the flaws they have.

Well you're obviously a skilled cabinet maker. The box is now a much cleaner solution than the previous "monster" that used to be back there. I looked back a couple of pages to see where the woofers that match the tweeters are living,..I assume the obvious,Behind the speaker grilles?

Did you post pics of where and how the sub woofer(s) are actually oriented?
And,.......
Where do the little japanese kids sit?

Uhh. Maybe I didn't post where the subs are... how could I forget that.
I used the same mb quart XC1-216 component set that went in the doors for the the rear speakers, this was done through the use of an adapter I modified for a 5x7.. these will be powered from an 4 channel amplifier.
The sub is a jvc arsenal (7040) 10" in a 2 cubic foot box tuned to 35hz... The subwoofer actually faces downward and fires into the space below the box where the rear driver side passenger would have been. I installed a few sheets of dyno mat into this area before the box installation.

Here is a picture of the box being built.

notice the hight of the wooden "leg" on the left side of the box (in current orientation were actually looking at the back and bottom of the box now) that's how much space the sub has to mount and breath. You can see on the right side I was going to vent the box at the bottom (slot thats cut into the bottom panel) but due to the way the floor of the rear seat area is shaped it proved difficult. So I made use out of the slope of the seat back and built a triangular port.
Here is the box after being covered in felt and the sub installed.

this was in the car, I put the front strap in place and made a slit in the carpet. From here I turned the box over and carefully slid it down and forward then attatched the mount to the body of the car and pulled the carpet over the strap and tucked it into place under the edge of the box.
Once I had the box in I assembled the rear quarter panels, then strapped the box again in the back. The backrest covers the second strap and serves as a mount for the rear crossovers and tweeters.

All the speaker wires and amplifier related items were routed into the trunk area, I will spend some time making an amplifier rack in the coming weeks....

The second Japanese kid is in the storage room, the vw bus will likely become it's new home when the time comes.
