My new 2007 GT is going to be delivered the first week in March. The dealership is trying to sell me an environmental package that contains some sort of window coating (like a permanent rainX), undercoating, paint sealer, etc... Is this worth it? I was thinking no, but then I saw the salt trucks drive by this morning and then I was thinking maybe. Thoughts?

Thanks.

Keep your car washed in the winter and it probably won't rust - especially with the new manufactured e-coated sheetmetal that most OEM's use these days...

Don't fall for those dealer add ons..

Yeah I wouldn't pay a nickle for those addons. The only reason that made sense for rust coating the fender well area was to provide extra sound deadening.

Are all the body parts metal in the first place?

I had my car rustproofed but I live on an island & one block from the Atlantic Ocean. At the recommendation of the dealership body shop manager, I took the car to a Ziebart shop and had the undercoating & rustproofing done there. The dealership body shop manager told me that they could undercoat the car but that they used the same aerosol stuff that you can buy yourself at AutoZone. Were it not for the environmental factors where I live, I would not have messed with it at all...

I have been told that in some cases the applications can trap dirt, etc. that's already there and actually cause more problems. The point is, I guess, that when undercoating make certain the metal is clean and there's nothing there that can get trapped.
Most, I believe, will tell you undercoating is no longer necessary.

The dealer's "environmental package" is worthless.

I bought a car off a dealer's lot that already had the paint sealant, etc. on it. They wanted $600 for it. I said forget it, so the dealer knocked the price down to $0 without even much of an argument. I paid exactly what it's worth, $0. When I washed the car for the 1st time by the way the water beaded up they had only applied the sealent to the top surfaces, hood, roof & trunk lid. So for the $600 they wanted, only half the car was waxed.

If you read the fine print of your "environmental package" warranty, you'll see that the paint sealent and Rain-X has to be re-applied every year. Usually this is at no extra charge. But the bottom line is that what they are selling is just a polymer sealant, the same stuff you can buy at Autozone for $15 an put it on yourself.
