Holy **** Mike! I love that ass for sure, it looks amazing! Not that I dont like the front, it turned out very well also. As you said before, it resembles an '05, but we all know it came from a '68. I know we will be seeing it in mags soon. Great job.

Piddlin'

For those of you that are wondering, I have been busy. It seems like I'll never get done though. While it is no different outside from the pictures I've already posted,, I have been working on getting the rest of the stuff done that'll someday allow me to drive this thing.

The first thing I did was work on the hammered lower radiator saddle. If you look at the front end pics, you'll see the thing drooping on the passenger side. I planned to just cut it out when it came new radiator time and that time has come.

Unlike a few others, I could care less where the radiator was made. I care that it cost 149.00. Unfortunately, there were "modifications" that had to be made, and since the saddle was trash, I figured what better reason to cut it up to make the new one fit.

Your average, everyday Jegs universal fit, Ford oriented, 2 row 149.00 radiator w/ a 139.00 Jegs 16" cooling fan w/ adjustable temp driven switch.

I will have to remake the upper and lower hoses, but what haven't I had to make?

I added about 60lbs of sound deadener to the back floor and rear seat areas. (with all that foil backing in there I like to think that not only will it deaden sound, it will also keep aliens from being able to read my thoughts.)

It went on remarkably easy. You can even cut the sheets w/ regular scissors, If you have to peel it up and reposition it, it is forgiving enough to let you do so, but after its rolled into place........It's there for good.

The seat belts are a 2" 4 point harness system. I intended to add a roll bar main hoop (49.00 from Mustangs Unlimited w/ free freight)and loop the shoulder harness straps over the horizontal cross bar the runs across right about shoulder height.

So I build the pads to allow me to bolt the bar in, weld the tabs that bolt the main hoop to where the old 3 pt system upper bolted too, and fit and weld that crossbar into place.

Then I put the seat in it.

Probably should've ck'd before welding the piss out of that cross bar, because now it was stopping me from sliding the seat back far enough.

I had a dilemma.

Either I was gonna have to live w/ the steering wheel in my face, or I was gonna have to cut that cross bar back out and do something different.

I cut it back out.

In it's place, I fabbed up these goofy upper belt mounts. I hope they work, because they too have had the piss welded out of them.

Because w/ the seat in and slid back to where I'd have it while driving there was no way that regular crossbar was gonna go back there and let me be comfortable.

Unfortunately, anybody sitting in the back seat is gonna get a face full of 1.250" steel bar if I even as much as slow down. NBD, I never intended for anybody to sit back there in the first place. Besides, w/ me at my sitting position, you'd have to be an amputee to sit behind me anyway.

Despite the fact that nobody will ever be able to sit back there, I still relocated the crossbar to just below the front edge of the back seat. The structural integrity of having both sides tied together was important enough to put the thing in there, otherwise I'd left it out.

When I think of it, I told the painter in late May that I wanted to shoot for getting it done so I could make the Hotrod power tour on the first week of June.

Yeah right, Maybe I'd make the first week of June,................ 2012.

Looks good to me Mike. Never know when you might see a midget hitch hiker, might as well throw in the back seat just in case.

Thanks you guys. It's down to the nit-picky. The new windshield is in, I finally forced myself to deal w/ refurbishing the C/L 1/4 windows, and I almost have the entire drivers' side done. I added a gold pinstripe to the center of the stripes. I like it alot better.

Man this is taking forever!!! I think it's taking longer to put the thing back together than it did to build it. ( well,....it seems like it anyways)

Everything is done except these last few cosmetic items. and because the parts have been sitting in the garage for the last 6 months, they are filthy. I have to detail everything before I can put it back in.

I was planning on driving it today Fat chance.

I was planning on taking it to the alignment shop at 1:00 tommorrow, doubtful.

I think I STILL gotta a full day before it'll see the light of day.

But The interior is going together, and the belts are cut and installed on the drivers seat.

Pics:

I gotta duplicate this for the passenger side, and finish the interior. The gas gauge is reading wrong, I'll probably have to pull the instrument cluster and see if I've set the dip switches wrong. I decided to add an "accent" color to the middle of the stripes, so I got to that, Trim around the windshield and rear window, and then......maybe sometime Saturday...

lookin good Mike. I like the look of those seat belts. I'm still not sure if I want to go with the 4 or the 5 point harness with my project. Keep the pics coming.

I love how the hoops worked out. Looks like you'd still have room for a passenger crazy enough to sit behind you as well. Lookin' good. and Yeah... it'll take longer because you are being meticulous about what it looks like going in... not so much when you took it out

Either way... Looks badass... and can't wait to buy the magazine when its the cover car.

Mike, did you eliminate the stock belts entirely? Race harnesses are nice, especially if you plan on going fast, but they are a huge PITA for a street car... But I'm sure you know that.

The whole reason for the belt swap is that mine were blue,....really, really faded blue. I tried to dye them black, but ended up w/ stiff belts that were Navy blue.

These 4pts. actually have a buckle similar to the stock seat belt, and the shoulder and lap belts are tied together, so all I have to do is slide into them like a jacket, and fasten them together just like the stock belt, so not too bad really.

The only thing I need to figure out is how to keep the belts on the seat. When you take them off they want to fall off the top of the seat.

The only place for a passenger is between the seats. Sitting behind the seats, those bars are about 6" from your teeth. I don't think I'll be haulin' around the school soccer kids in this car. ( or in any car for that matter, I don't haul "soccer kids" anywhere)

Thanks, But I'll tell you...I had a set of 3" racing harnesses that went right back to Summit. I agree w/ Nik, if you are gonna do any street driving race harnesses are a PITA. Threading the individual belts into the latch-link every time, and as heavy as 3" belts actually are, the decision to use the 2" 4 pt belts was a no brainer. The 4 pts make that more tolerable, but they are not SFI certified, so If you race that thing at an NHRA track,.. NO said the finger!!

thanks for the info on the belts. The 4 point does sound more user friendly but, I think I will end up with a 5 point just so I dont buy them twice. Mine is going to be a street driven track car so I might as well suck up a little more discomfort.(no A/C, no power steering, Windows that only operate with a quick release pin and so on.
