Well, i finally got to drive my car today, I got the intercooler and radiator mounted, BUT i have not plumbed the IC yet so my Impatience got the best of me and i ghetto rigged up the old mustang intake hose between the TB and turbo using generous amounts of duct tape. (yes, i know its not boost friendly) Then i hopped in and took it for a spin....

wow, i this is the first time i have driven or ridden in a turboford and man.. Im impressed. Its mighty quick. Actually took me by suprise. Boost!
I have it set pretty much at bare min boost, it pegged 15 psi and held. on this length of road out by my house i used to hit about 82 from the curve to the intersection (empty back country road) I hit 90 is roughly 1/3 of the distance.. Damn!. i got 3 passes in and it ran great.. till the 4th pass, then as i expected it to, the mustang intake hose exploded, I limped it home, but the 1/2 mile limp home could not erase the HUGE goofy grin on my face. Thank you everyone for your help and advice. the car is real quick, Now i just need to plumb the intercooler and get my electric fan wired up (installed but not wired it was a cool day) And i should be good to go!!

Sorry for the book... Im just excited.

Thanks guys, its satisfying to build something and actually have it work. Im sure its not nearly as fast as some of your guys cars but im certianly impressed. I do have a question though, For my IC piping, 2" or 2.5" and can i go 2.5" crush bent rather then mandel or will i regret it later if i do it. Ive driven it now, so i want to drive it again soon, is it better for me to order the stuff and wait, or just have a muffler shop bend me up some stuff and call it a day?

i started out with crush bent 2.5 ...depending on the angle, it wont noticable hurt performance. I eventually made a mandrel bent 2.5, didnt notice any improvement outside of the looks/fit.

what IC rad combo you got? I couldnt make my old brackets work, i had to use the ZIP Tie patented Mounting mechinism. and couple threaded rods for brackets. that looks nice though, i need something like that, and where did you get the overflow, i had to ditch mine, and am currently without one.

Congrats Doc! I'm making progress on mine, too. Should be getting my header back today or tomorrow from my buddy who ported it, and giving it to my other buddy who'll ceramic coat it. Bought an Explorer radiator yesterday, which looks sweet, and I've got a Taurus fan that'll go on that when everything's in the car.

Isn't boost a wonderful feeling?

Yes.. boost is a wonderful thing, I looked for an explorer rad (2 core) but all i could find was a ranger (1 core) so i am hoping it has enough capacity to keep it cool. I went with a farly pricy Hayden Fan to make sure i got plenty of air flow. so hopefully it'll be alright. Ill have to get some pics of the way my IC is mounted and some IN car engine shots. I cant wait to get my ic hooked up, and the exaust connected. so i can drive this thing again.

The key with IC tubing is to have the fewest size changes possible...every time it gets bigger or smaller it screws up flow. If your IC is 2.5" in/out and the TB is 2.5", go with 2.5" tubing.

Also remember crush bent tubing changes size at every bend, and looks like total ****.

I hope Wood doesn't mind me jumping in but, I know he's got a Volvo radiator in his Stang and that is one of the 2 styles of coolant fill bottles. The other is round. The Volvo rad is a closed system so you add coolant through the fill bottle. I'm not sure about his IC but I'm sure he'll reply when he gets a chance. I'm running a Volvo rad and NPR in mine (still under construction). Click on 'Thunderstang' in my sig to see it.

Evintho is correct, its a volvo radiator/coolant tank. The intercooler is a Saab 9000, looks just like a volvo one, except wider with stretched end tanks. I originally was going to use my mustang radiator..this IC *Almost* made that possible.

the brackets are both the standard mustang ones (those hold the fan in place)
aswell as the volvo radiator bracket (which holds the radiator). The coolant resivor is custom.
