I saw a flying Ferrari Saturday at PR.
Me and my son were headed to the motorcross track and had just turned right at the gate when we saw a brand new Ferrari 360 come flying through the air from the road course. We ran up to the car just as the driver and passanger were climbing out of the car. Both were unhurt, it was father and son with the 16 y/o son driving at 159mph. The car was brand new still had the paper licence plate and it was totaled parts everywear.

This is what happened he was comeing up the drag strip part of the track to turn one where it is a little off camber and there is a transation in the pavement. He was doing 150mph (so dad said) and the backend started to bumpsteer he let off the gas and the car spun backwards hit the 14' embankment spun 360deg hit the bank again then lanched through the trees over the fence landed upside down then fliped on its wheels and came to a stop. Thats when they climbed out as me and my son came running up.
What a trip they were ok but went to the hospital for a check up.
The dad said oh well its just a car the ins. will pay for it. I told him that they will not pay because he was on the race track at the time of the accident and his son did not have a drivers licence.

NEVER lift in Turn 1, in fact if you are not at constant throttle you should be accelerating thru this turn.

Still a major bummer. The bump in Turn 1 is unsettling that is why the schools and novice sessions start you off slow to get used to the feeling.

That sucks, but glad they are ok. So long as they were not racing - against another driver or for time, their ins. will probably cover it.

Lifting in turn one is a major no no. I did ever so slightly once and only by the great training that Proformance and Don Kitch gave me did I save it by planting the throttle.

How did they run on track at speed with no drivers license?

And then people wonder why people are getting dropped even before trying to make a claim for going to the track.

If you can't afford to leave it at the track you shouldnt drive it at the track.

lmao! Its also a big no no in a ferrari to let off if rear end is coming around.. (friend of mine a few years ago wrecked a 355 in California on a business event that way). $$$ doesnt mean you can drive.

that's too bad, however he's right... it's just a car... imagine if both of them didn't survive that wreck and how much it would hurt for their family

You mean you can't just go out and buy the most expensive car around and be a race car driver?

Well, anyway, at least they are ok and have a good attitude about it. Though I sense responsibility may be lacking...

Looks like the main stucture held up. Glad to hear they were not killed.
Clarke is right on, never lift until you see cones.

can someone educate me about what lifting means? Kinda curious now since I plan to be racing down there next summer.

Guess this is a good reason for me to get some instruction before I go race too.

Lifting off the gas in a turn in some cases can get your tail end out and around.

He probably swung around backwards off the banking of 1/2 and over into the bushes by the MotoX track.
