I have the Gt40 Heads off of the Cobra... I didn't look that close, I didn't know they were the alumminum heads. Yes according to the dyno sheet the car is making around 270 hp and he did have good traction.. but I did beat him threw first and was right with him in 2nd. I did do this on the street at 2:00 the morning after work, but it was far away from any residents and we jumped on the brakes right after.

Do you think the judge or cop would accept your excuses? I'm not saying I'm perfect, but just be prepared to accept the penalty if caught. Personally, I'm not prepared to accept the cost of death or injury to innocents, myself is another matter, but still, now I have a wife to think of too. So for me, the few bucks it costs to run at a local track is well worth the peace of mind.

I usually go to the 1/8 mile or the 1/4... after working for 10 hours and then coincidently meeting up with a friend who I have been meaning to race (to see if all this money spend was worth anything) seemed like a gift from the car gods. Then the adrenaline that was built up and then the fact that it was 2:00 in the morning and there wasn't anything in site didn't seem to over come the small small possibility that there was a cop and the even smaller possibility that someone was running around the 4 lane street trying to get hit by cars. Anything else is our problem and not yours, if we hit each other then it is our deal, if we wreck or something it is our deal.. not yours so don't preach to me with very limited details... you weren't there and you have nothing to do with it.

Can anyone here honestly say they have never indulged in a little stop light street race? Maybe even just to the other side of the intersection...

The 0-80 races seem close enough to innocent fun if done away from traffic or at least be the first two cars at the light. Its the idiots that are racing through traffic that are the real danger.

Yeah right what explanation could ANYONE have for doin 110mph in a 40mph? You'll be lucky if the Cop gives you the break cause the judge wont

Like I said earlier - it's self limiting; either age will take care of it, or you'll take yourself out of the gene pool. Even the most limited risk is not worth taking when it comes to others' safety. As for not preaching - once you post it in a public forum, you open yourself up to that. If you don't want to hear it, don't post it. It's simple - take it to the track. Better off for everyone - it's not debatable.

Dude, Im sick of people talking about right and wrong. We are all speeders and drive around with no cats so shut up and answer the boys questions. Again, I seriously doubt you are making anywhere near 305 to the flywheel. You practically have the same setup as the 93 cobra and it was rated at like 240 or something. Buy a cam and a set of aluminum heads with at least 3.73 gears and your there man.

Doing 70 in a 55 during the commute when EVERYONE is doing 70 (the typical 'speeder') is a far cry from doing 110 in 40 racing in the middle of the night. C'mon Smock - you know better.

well just for the sake of argument, I don't think you are making 300 hp yet, but you have a good foundation. I used to have a 306 with those heads but they were ported, an edelbrock performer intake, 65mm t.b, 1.72 rockers, b cam, shorty headers, off road pipe and it was making 335 at the fly. Finish it off with a cam, and a t.b and you should be above the 300 hp mark.

also, 93 cobras were rated at 235 (the 94-95 cobras were rated at 245) but they were also underrated, as many other mustangs have been.

Also, I agree with the tfs kit comment. Any alum. heads/cam/intake will take your gt40 combo. That was a great combo back in the day and a good entry level combo now, but will finish last to pretty much any other decent combo. Again, it is an entry level set of heads, so don't expect too much from em, especially unported.

One last thing, you said his "dyno sheet said it was making 270"?? if that is the case then the dyno was most likely reading it from the wheels unless it was run out of the car which I doubt. over 300hp on a light car like that is pretty impressive.

a properly setup stage 2 car on drag radials w/ good driver will go LOW 13s to HIGH 12s @ 106-110+mph.
They're a lot faster than you think w/ mods
Me personally on full slicks I WILL see low 12s to high 11s and I've got about $2500 in my setup...just cause its a neon doesn't make it slow.
On the other hand, put a gear in your car and a set of sticky tires!
ALSO I weighed 3,085 w/ me at Reynolds, car was redynoed at 380whp and 425ftlbs on the stock turbo w/ nitrous and I run 12.7 @ 120mph w/ a 2.27 60' on normal daily driven street tires, NOT drag radials. These Neons are some of the heavier sport compacts.

Why are we arguing about a gay ass SRT4? Who the hell cares about that little peice of ****. The main reason he probably beat you is because you cant drive for **** would be my guess...and as far as all this bull**** of expensive aluminum heads and Im a big cry baby and cant break 300RWHP?...I built a GT40P engine for a friend using ported heads with 1.94 intake and 1.6 exhaust valves cost $600 and I ported the hell out of the explorer intake and ran a 70mm TB and Trickflow stage 1 cam and made 327RWHP on Anderson Fords Dyno....You dont have to be rich if you know what you are doing.....and at the right junk yard that does not know what a GT40p head is you can get them for $50-100 and the intake for about the same.....Hell at (U Wrench It) in St.Louis you can get anything you can carry for $50...

im almost certan his car is much faster than a 13.6 , i have a close friend who doesnt have an mopar upgrade. his stock turbo turns around 12psi i believe , he does have a blow off valve and exhaust intake and upgrader computer and injector but his turbo is turning stock boost. at the track he runs 13.6's on street tires at like 104 or 105 mph the stage 2 up grade prolly turns a little more mph that that . which you figure with a good launch could be way into the 12's .

dont underextime the srt 4's there good cars for the money and can be upgraded fairly cheap just like our cars but thats just what i think

The stock MAF and TB are big restrictions on performance with any aftermarket intake/head combo. The GT40s can make good power, but they need to be ported right.

I don't know anything about the SRT4 stage2, but with a couple more boltons that will help get air to the motor, and a decent tune, you'll pick up some significant performance. When you start making significant changes, you can't simply throw a new part on the car and be done with it.

Look guys, im not here to preach. but, racing is racing. Its a game of risk.

My problem with street racing is simple. Lack of control. not of the car.. or the wages. but the conditions... the enviroment.

In that 1/8 mile or 1/4 mile on the street. something could happen. and guess what. you have to wait for medics... fire rescue.. blablabla. the whole works.

If something happens at the track.. guess what. Medics are there... they are on alert. Fire suppression is on hand.

Even a simple nitrous explosion on the street could lead to the destruction of your car. (burning to the ground!!!) But guess what??.. at the track. all these things are ready and waiting.

Not only that. but, you will have solid proof of performance gains due to modifications, tuning.. weather.. ect.

I personally prefer the rush of nailing a perfect tree, and hitting a good number, knowing. that if something happens. im not fugged.

There is not jail time at the track. no speeding tickets.

Personally, I think the gas money, and price of addmission is worth it.
