I'm looking for something to pick up to drive so I can leave the Crew Cab diesel parked in the driveway when I dont need it (since diesel is almost $5.00/gal).

I'm curious what kind of mileage everyone is getting with a close to stock 5.0? Really wanting to find a 87-93 mass air notchback with a 5 speed. I'm sure it wont stay stock long, like all my other mustangs LOL. But To start I probably wont do much more than exhaust, shifter and maybe a set of gears. Thanks in advamce for any info.

I have a the exact car you just described minus gears. Still the stock 3.08s.

Usually do 19-21 city, 24-28 highway

worst ive ever done is 16 mpg. Butt ass cold outside, mostly city driving, gas leak, and an exhaust leak (sucking air in, fooling the 02 sensors into thinking its lean, computer dumps max fuel into engine). It was also begging for a tune-up

best ive ever done is 31. really proud of it, because it was pretty consistant. I did 28-30 for that entire road trip, except when we were uphill for most of a tank of gas, where i got 25. I had just done full exhaust (which passed emissions better than stock) and a tuneup.

This summer im doing about 40 miles each day just to work and back. With some extra driving that ive done outside of work, ive gone 140 miles in 4 days, and its right at half a tank indicated. Usually 125 at half a tank indicated means about 20 mpg, so i think im doing a bit better.

It is possible!

4R70W, manual VB, 3.73s, heads, blower, bla bla bla, I got around 15mpg mixed city/highway last time I calculated in a half-ass manner. Could be better, could be worse, but no matter. It's fun either way.

I just had a long weekend traveled 441 miles on one tank and got 35.84 mpg, but my Stang is a 2.3 5 speed with 3.73s. Not bad for a 16 year old car with 166,000 miles on her.

my vert gets horrible mileage in town but on trips ive done as well as low 30's but ive really got to watch my foot and the car was running tip top that day. 2.73's are good for something...

im stock with a 76mm c&l mass air and inlet tube, flowmaster 3 chamber catback, and a k&n. stock 2.73's. my best around town is 18, but usually like 15 to 16. by the time i get 80 or so miles im at a half tank. sometimes its around 100. if i drive slow.

Best so far I've gotten was 23 MPG highway in my AOD 'vert; absolute worst I've gotten in it was 16 MPG, all in-town and romping on it a lot. Stock gears (3.08's, I believe) still in there.

If I wind up keeping the thing (depending on what the poll in BHR decides, heh), I'm planning to swap that AOD out in favor of a T-5. Better mileage, better acceleration, easier to work on, more fun, etc. Probably somewhere around 25 MPG if I'm lucky.

One time I got 24 mpg out of a tank with my old stock combo, (basic bolt ons with AOD, 2.73's.) but I was driving like grandma. With my GT40 top end and TFS 1 cam and T5 I'm getting a solid 18 mpg in the city/ hwy. And that's driving like a regular person, with a good punch every now and then, if I baby it I could probably do 24 or 25 mpg again.
