Does a car burn more, less, or the same amount of gas with retarded timing?

Cause there is a camaro at school and at first I thought that he had a rowdy cam, but after talking to him he told me that he just got the effect by retarding the timing. Got me wondering.

Best mileage comes from advancing the timing maximum amount before pinging. Why would anyone screw up the tuning of a car just to make it sound a certain way? Oh yea the owner bought a camaro.

Maybe he just thought the timing should be a match to the car and its owner, so that's why he retarded it.

Retarding the timing to achieve a "lope" is pretty "retarded" idea and certainly would have a NEGATIVE effect on mileage.

retarded owner=retarded timing=lower fuel economy and lower performance.
