Nearly stock 95' Vert. I can add other parts later, like intake and heads. Need advice on good charger for street car. I drive this everyday in the summer, so it can't be tempermental. model #'s will help alot. I've looked at Novi, Paxton and powerdyne. I did a search and could'nt find a definitive answer.

out of those 3 i'd go with the Novi, but really your only listing two becuase Paxton makes the Novi series superchargers....

vortechs can be had for cheaper though....

i would look at either paxton or vortech. powerdyne is trash. the saying "you get what you pay for" really holds true in this case.

And Roger SHOULD know this.

Paxton is good, Procharger is good, and Vortech is good (and pretty much most common)

I wont say ONE of the three is better, but I will say that Vortech should be had easier if you want used, and you will be able to find more help here with install on the Vortech than the others.

For a Street Car, KB would be nice also.

also, to add to what rob said, the vortech is the only unit that doesnt require lengthening wires. the novi2000 moves the alternator underneath while the vortech just shifts it a little upward from the stock location. as far as the procharger goes, it requires you to relocate the battery, but in turn does not need the oil feed or return lines because it has a self contained oiling system.

I would stay away from a powerdyne. Their ok if you want to run under 8lbs of boost, but im running an 11lb pulley, and am driving the s/c to its max to get that.. I got mine with the car and all I had to do was rebuild it, thats why I have one..

For a D/D I would get a kenne bell as the boost is instand and the torque is amazing. I dont know how their prices compare to a vortech or anything like that, but they are very nice.

Out of your 3, I would also say go with the novi as long as your comfortable doing the extra work required to install it.

I've always found good prices at www.superchargesonline.com . Ive never bought a whole kit, just parts if I need them, and I thought I got a good price?? Might be worth checking out.

Vortech is definately an option. I am seeking a used unit that is complete.

I picked up a complete V1 S-trim kit a little over 2k miles on it for just under $1,900 shipped.

Figure on another thousand or so for supporting parts/tune and those "gee I forgot about that" type things.

Wes

P.S. My supporting parts list is something like this... (not all 100% necessary)
  • 90mm MAF/Pigtail Adapter
  • 42lb Injectors
  • 255lph Fuel Pump
  • twEECer R/T
  • AFM Powerpipe
  • Wideband O2 Sensor, MAP Sensor/DataQ

Vortech makes a nice kit for our cars. If you plan on moving up though, I would go with a ProCharger with an intercooler. These kits are the higher end kits based on price/bang for your buck... Until vortech comes out with an intercooler system the is part of their package for our cars (SN95) ProCharger has them beat. ProCharger or Vortech.... Don't bother with the FMU unless you are totally stock (I.E no H/C/I)....Thats aonther thread though...Do some research a supper charger can be a big deal if rushed into...

real huffers sit in the valley

Too bad there's no supercharger that will sit in the lifter valley of our cars:nonono:

Prochargers are outrageously priced for what you get, but are nice none the less.

Powerdynes are junk according to most who have owned them

Vortechs are the most user friendly and widely used supercharger of all, at least with Mustangs. Like mentioned above, you'll get alot more support if you have issues or need help.

KB's WOULD be the cat's meow if they designed some way to cool the air charge down. They cost alot too! And by the time you invest in a meth injection kit, the price is probably well over 4 grand including the rest of the supporting mods.

I vote Vortech. My experience with their product has been awsome! The performance was way better than advertised. The kit installed with no issues and their instructions are pretty thorogh as well!:nice:

Turbos aren't for the inexperienced, their really isn't a "user friendly" kit out there under 4 grand....

Yes, slightly more expensive than an intercooled centrifugul, but no less user friendly anymore... Hellions kit is awesome ( I helped put one on a buddy's car last month). My vortech will be yanked off as soon as my motor is done... A centrifugal takes WAAAAAY longer to "spool' than a properly sized turbo..
MY buddy's car makes over 100 lb/ft tq more than I do with 2 psi less boost...

So yeah, it might be a little more expensive at first, but you also get new manifolds, and intercooler, generally a K memeber, and the ability to take the stock block to its' limit without HEADS CAM and INTAKE, which helps the ugrade pay for itself..

I went with a non-intercooled procharger P-1SC-2. It was around $2,800 for the kit (no fuel or tuning parts) and there are pullies that go up to 18 psi. I can always pretty easily install an intercooler later, and the whole self contained bit was a big factor for me, I didn't like the idea of tapping into my oil pan at all.
