Nice pick up Duncan. I'm sure Nik will be in later with a few screens worth of thoughts. :D

Way back when, I pined for the early (80's) GTIs.

It looks like it'll be fun. You two are into the Teutonics. :nice:

Sweet, we've done a ton of those swaps through our shop, probably my favorite. I had the first supercharged vr swap in a 85-92 in the country, I kind of miss that car and wish I never sold it but doing so brought me my 1st stang lol. They're dead reliable if done right so no worries there. Have fun with it! BTW mine scaled @ 2600 lbs without me in it. The guy must have been wrong when he said 1800, our gutted 84 rabbit race car with plexi windows, door frame innards cut out, and quarter frames cut out, no bumpers, and a 16v weighed 1790. When near stock they typically run around mid to high 14's so 14 flat's really good!. Their sound is hard to beat too. PERFECT car for a daily driver. Cool to see some more vee dub love in here.

Thanks guys!

I guess we can't help ourselves. She knew she wanted something small...and preferably a hatchback (she drive a sunfire right now, which she loathes). There was obviously no way I was going to suggest a civic to her, so I thought a dub would be a good route.

And yes JT, you are right...I'm all about this:

:D J/K - It's just something about German craftsmanship that does it for me.

Are you upset about the fact that she'll outrun you? :rlaugh:

Yes. I am.

I'm thinking a springtime Vortech might be able to cure that, though :)

Indeed, I ended up looking at the #s once I posted this, and it is clear that the weight is probably more around 22-2400 lbs. The AC is removed, along with some other stuff, but it's by no means gutted.

I thought the sound was fantastic. In fact, I was almost jealous!

But then I remembered that I have my own little hatch/coupe. Hopefully this fall, I'll be taking this:

And putting in one of these:

Maybe using one of these as a donor...maybe not:

that seems slow for an 1800lb v6 to me. with 190 whp i raced a motor swapped hatch that ran bottom 13's @104

I'm not sure if I heard him wrong, or what, but it's probably closer to around 2200lbs. It also would more than likely have less than 190 whp.

Not usually one to look at the cup is half empty side, but who ran the 14 flat? The same guy that told you it weighed 1800lbs?

Cute car. :nice:

It is the same guy. I drove the car though, and it felt faster than my car, and pulled strong to 7k. The guy that sold it to us actually works at a VW dealership. Him and some of the other mechanics there did the swap. I talked to a couple of them, nice guys.

I'm sure we'll take it to the track soon, so I'll make sure we weigh it there :nice:

I personally think they are cool cars and they are still veeery light. Edmunds rates the 92 wit hthe 4cyl at 2445 #. That's still real light. Sheesh, that is 1000# lighter than my vert....well was til I subtracted some weight!

In this day and age, that thing is still light. :nice:
Compared to a stang or whatever, there is a TON to be said for a relative Chapman-esque power to weight ratio - the cars scoot and can carry a lot of speed through the turns, making them quick and nimble (Ice Ice Baby). :D

As for the actual weight, meh, who cares. This is a nice peppy little DD for Mrs Highlander, not something being slid across an autocross track.

yea..id bet my car on it that that thing weighs more than that...probably like 2500. Still, they are fast little cars with the vr6.

anyone here go to waterfest or h20?

Yea, I've been to Waterfest the last 2 years in a row. It's definately a different crowd, but I got to take one of VW's brand new '08 TDI Jettas around the autocross track they had set up there and got the 3rd best time of the day, and I was competing against the GTi 2.0t, the Fahrenheit GTi, and the Fahrenheit Jetta!

My roommate's early 90's Golf weighs 2000 pounds on the nose. He doesn't have much left as far as carpeting/sound deadening and also doesn't have the rear seat, otherwise it has everything else I think.

Talk about a fun little car in the corners. It is lowered a couple inches and has Falken Azenis all around. I have a smile on my face every time he lets me drive it.

Vee Dub in da haus (I love those commercials)
