Going to the track - some pics

i didnt know either! how do you like the TW's with the performer intake? thats the "street" or "lowest" version of the eddy intakes, isnt it? im seriously looking into this combo, with some 24 lb/hr injectors.

Yes, its the street.. its like an origional street intake tho, its like 7 years old! ill take pics of the car tonight, i have not had a chance to detail the engine so thats why i dont show pics of my dirty engine bay :( ..

however i really like the combination i have. Its very streetable and makes some great power. over 3000 is a blast!!! we'll see tonight how good of a driver i am and how good this combo is!

on a side note, what tire pressure should i run??

Put the tires to about 12-13 psi to start. Drive AROUND the water and back into it. With wide street tires up front, dont drive through the water. Back the tires in, do a quick spin to get them wet, and pull out in front of the water. Heel/toe and pop the clutch at 5000 RPM or better. Hold the car still until you feel the tires start to grip or 8 seconds or so.

Pull to the line and let it fly.

thanks man Ill do my best! ive honestly never done a standing burnout, so this will be interesting tonight to see how it goes.. im thinking ill try launching at like 3500 see what happens... 12-13 isnt too low??

i have no idea about tire pressure, i've never even been to the track, let alone run slicks. have you had your car dyno'd?

nope never been to the dyno yet. hopefully soon! i have some suspension stuff i have to put on before i take it there (i have all stock 4banger stuff) so tonight will be interesting in that aspect as well!

Look at my Avatar... those are 26x9 slicks at 9 or 10 psi. That is extremely low and I ran the risk of spinning the tire on the rim, but on that day hooked to a 1.69 60' two times on a completely stock suspension sans sway bar.

You could start higher but a car thats not dialed in seems to need less pressure to take the shock and give the widest footprint.

The heel/toe burnout might be tough for a beginner and especially at the track where your going to be nervous. Id say if you dont have the desire its easier to pop the clutch and get your left foot on the brake quick. Car shouldnt move to far if the tires are wet, and you get the RPMs high enough.

Also to note, do a second gear burnout. First gear will rev too fast and the tires will spin slower than an equal RPMed second gear burnout!

Thanks man!!

question - how do i do a heel/toe burnout then? ill probably start the tires spinning and put my left foot on the brake..

put your heel on the brake, and toes on the clutch.. apply gas easy of the clutch holding the brake and pop the clutch all the way out maintain brake and alot of gas to keep the rear wheels spinning in place.. repete sets as you switch gears.. takes pratice i dont have it down yet! but i am tryen..

Dont switch gears like this... quick way to blow your T5. Throw it in 2nd heel on the brake pretty hard, rev it to 5000 or more with the gas and pop the clutch. When done right the car shouldnt move and will sit there till you let off. Feel for the tires to hook (RPM will start to drop a little) and then come out of the burnout by letting off the brake completely and ride it out some.

No thats right, but I personally would not be banging gears like that. Your talking instant tires spinning hard, then bang instant stop, then bang instant tires spinning hard again. Although abuse is what these cars are made for, Im not sure Id go that far, when its as easy to start in 2nd and get them hot that way!

ok,, so pretty much star her in second, and have my heel on the brake, clutch depressed with my toes, then can i just revv her up, and slip my toes off the clutch so it like pretty much snaps up? i dunno if that made sence.. we will be there at 6 when the track at englightown opens im starting to feel the nerves!!! :D

do exactly what 25th said. BACK INTO the water box, if your front street tire go through it they can catch the water and when you go to launch the back tires will catch the water and spin. Back into it, brealy drop the clutch and BEARLY push the gas just to spin them in the water to get them wet, they will spin FAST in the water. roll a few feeet from the water box. Put it in second, rev to 5k and drop the clutch, quickly hit the brake for a good 5-10 seconds, if you see the tires are hooking and the rpms are going down no matter how much gas you give it, the engine starts dieing, they are great, go and line up. Rev to 4k rpm and drop the clutch, I think you should pull mid 12's atleast, with some powershifting and a few good runs in first to get some practice.

Id also run them around 11-13 psi. I used to run my et streets at 13 psi, last time I went to the track I dropped them to about 10.5 and was cutting high 1.7's all night.

thanks man

i dont know how many runs ill be able to get in. its beautiful here today, and its a pretty well known track. by the time i get there ill probably have a 45 mins wait, so im thinking ill only get 2 runs in unfortunatly.. there is a smaller track called atco around here that i would be able to get alot of runs in but they dont have an open track night tonight.
