gt-40 intake manifold from a 98 explorer will it work for a 5.0

i went to pick an pull and found a GT-40 intake manifold from a 98 explore
it was a 5.0 ,

i was woundering will it work for my 89 mustang 5.0
i looks like the the cobra lower and the gt-40 upper
the vacum lines look a alittle different but i wanted to
see if it will work
any body know?

yeah TONS of people do it. very common, cheap, good hp gain over stock. throttle body is different though, you'll have to do some custom fabbing to get the throttle bracket to work. here's some info: http://forums.stangnet.com/showthread.php?t=551505

The only issue that you might run into is that the 98s do not have an internal EGR passage. So you will not have a functional EGR system on the car.

If you need to keep your EGR finctional for emissions testing, you'll have to sell that one and get one from a 96-early 97 Explorer......

so say i just put it on, will the car run different because of the EGR
i plan on driillin the hole for the air sensor,
but the only big thing im worried about is the EGR

Unless you turn the EGR function off in the EEC it can run a little lean. Some folks, myself included were not able to advance the timing much past the stock 10* before it started showing signs of detonation. Not definitely going to happen but might.

I run a factory OEM 97 Explorer engine in one car and another with cam and intake in the other. I delete EGR on both through the EEC. The Explorer engines with GT40P heads don't need much timing as the 5.0 HO motors do. Unless you need it for emissions go to this link for a way to by pass it without getting into the EEC:
