GT40P heads??

to be honest, you are better off with the regular heads. The P heads will give u very little gain. Besides, if u buy the P heads, You will need to buy the headers that go with it, i believe mac and ford racing sells them. but its in the 300 price range. and they are shorties. or you can look for longtubes that have good spacing so the spark plugs will clear (which must be 90 degree boots). the P's are a hassle IMO. i would stick to gt40's.

I dunno....don't the Ps have smaller combustion chambers, or do i have that backwards? If so then that's a little extra compression (i'd have them milled down anyways though). The whole idea behind the spark plug angle is that it points the plug to the center of the cylinder and gives better spark...that makes better power. It's a small difference but every bit adds up. Also if you already have full lengths then i wouldn't sweat it, pretty much every full length i've seen will work with Ps.

yeah the combustion chamber is different which is where the extra power is gained from. but idk, if he only has one hed and nothig else, it isnt worth it. look for regular gt40's in the explorers or mountaineers earlier than 97.

that is NOT where the power id picked up from... The P head is completely different exhaust ports and angles than the regular gt series and e7 garbage...

stock for stock gt40p heads are cheaper, and make more power than gt40's its a fact of life...

If he needs headers anyway he's going to have to buy them eventually.

The FMS headers are quality peices. My BBK's are rusting to hell, and my replacement headers will be the FMS shorties.

GT-40P's with the upgraded TFS valve springs, and a TFS stage 1 cam is a pretty stout combo. I know of someone trapping 105MPH with those heads cam and a Cobra Intake and 65mm TB

Another point that should be made is that the P specific headers will work on any Ford head, so it's not like you can only use them on P heads. If i ever go back to shorties i'm getting Ford's P specific stainless headers...they're very nice quality pieces.

Which headers?

The FMS headers are ceramic coated. I've installed 2-3 sets of these on friend's cars. They fit perfectly, sealed perfectly and even a couple years down the road they still looked new.

My BBK's are just chrome. They are 5 years old and look like crap. I could prob powedercoat them or something, but I want the Ford headers..so now i need to buy headers.....again.

If i knew what i knew now, i would have bought the FMS headers and called it a day.

yeah. well, personally i would get longtubes cuz i like the sound they give. In mustangs unlimited, they have a set of longtubes for around 120 but they are only painted black. I think thats a good move if he gets the P heads. but what i meant was if you powdercoat headers, do they rust?? im not too sure but im believing that they dont.

I haven't seen a powdercoat that'll hold up on headers yet. Even ceramic coating isn't rust proof, a lot of them will get light surface rust and rust down in between the primaries where they meat at the collector.

My buddy got a coupe earlier this year that has FMS shorties on them and they look fantastic. The kid said he got'em 3 years ago.

Say what you want about the P's but I can tell you from personal experience they made a huge difference in the midrange and topend on my car, granted I already had a Cobra intake and headers/exhaust but the gain is definately there if you have the supporting mods:)

I got the GT40P's with MAC L/T's the plugs are easy to get to! Maybe because i have the "special" headers?I dynod 301HP338TQ at the wheels with these heads and my car has gone 12.2@112MPH. peace
