I did a search, but not too many people have my exact combo. Anyway, I can get a good deal on a TrickFlow stage 1 cam. My knowledge on camshafts is close to zero, so I need a little help deciding if it is worth swapping my cam with the modifications I have(mods in sig). This car is also a daily driver, so I need something with a good idle and good street habits. I was planning on replacing the gasket on the timing chain cover so I guess now would be a good of time as any to swap in a cam. The only other thing I plan on doing to my car(for now)is adding a nitrous kit; will this cam work well with a nitrous kit? So what do you guys think so I swap out the cam, or stay with the stock cam and use that money somewhere else? Thanks

The TFS1 will be a good fit. RR's?

definitely a good choice over stock-and since it's got more exh duration than intake, that'll help you out when you juice it up a little :D...just make sure you have all your gaskets when you go to do the swap, and reset your base idle and timing to accomodate for the slight increase in duration and lift

Yes I will be using 1.6 RRs with the cam. Two for yes, one for no, what to do what to do. With the money saved I could buy something for my wife, take my dad out to eat for Father's day or I can spend it on strippers and beer. :D Anyone else have any input on whether or not I should swap out my cam.
Thanks stang22, 89sleeper and txstang84 for the replies.

You can benifit from a cam with your combo. I would say either go with a custom grind or something mild. There is always the classic E cam/cran2031. I like comp XE264 for an application like that. Unless you have different valve springs, keep lift under .500. If you would just like to save money I think a new timing chain with a better keyway so you can adjust the cam timing. Retarding the cam will move the powerband upwards to better match your combo.

It would definitely help those E7s out, but you'd probably be better off waiting until you get some better aftermarket heads. If your roller lifters (not the rockers) are original equipment you should go ahead and replace those too while you're in there and they have to come out anyways when you swap cams

Thanks for the suggestions guys :nice:. Money isn't a problem, but I never really planned to cam this combo. Right now my car pulls hard for what it has idles smooth and is very enjoyable to drive, but I want a little more in 3rd(thats when those LS1 pull away from me). Heads will come soon, but I want to see what I can get out of my current combination, plus nitrous if fun :D The E7s on my car are off a 95 GT which had less than 50,000 miles which were mildly ported, shaved and given a 3 angle valve job but have the stock springs. You guys think I will have valve float? I just did my head swap, so I don't really want to pull the heads again. Thanks again keep the suggestions coming.

If you are going to put in another cam or even switch to 1.7 rockers you will need to upgrade your springs.

You don't have to pull the heads to change them. I have done spring swaps with the heads on several times. It's not too hard.

why would you retard the stock cam? I would advance it to 14* that is where most 5.0's run best, you might be able to squeez even a little more out with more octane fuel. That is what i would do, also i vote for the cam

You are talking about timing the distributor...you advance the cam usually in 2 or 4* increments which gives you more "down low" power and retarding it gives you more up top power...
