heading to track for first time...need tips

heading to the track for the first in the fiveohh guys...mods are in sig...running on street tires...rears are 18x10 wrapped in 295's(need to go bigger)...anyways, i heard, with street tires i should launch from idle, ive also heard i should launch from 2k. what should i launch at? also, im guessing i should be shifting at around 5500. what do you guys think? also, what do you guys think my car should run with a good driver?

As for launch rpm you just gotta feel for the edge of traction loss. This will greatly depend on track prep.
With your mods try shifting around 5700rpm.

Slip the clutch, don't dump it.... unless you have magic street tires and lots of VHT on the track.

+1 on slipping the clutch - shoot for a 2.0 60ft on your street tires... if you spinnin' you ain't winnin'!

Heck, forgot the most important rule.... HAVE FUN! Don't get all excited about your reaction time. It has nothing to do with your cars time.

Take your time...... try different things. Different rpm launches, different shifting points. Enjoy your first trip to the track... after all it only happens once.

+100 for feathering in the clutch... i pulled a 2.109 in my probe on street tires... your going to have to practice this at different RPMS to see how you react to it though takes some time but basically... hold your clutch to the floor put the car in to first gear and start reving id start around 2200 rpm for a stang... (probe was up around 3300 because of the light weight fly) slowly let off your clutch while continuing to give the car gas you might spin a little bit but not as bad as just dumping the clutch... you will feel your tires stopp spinning under you (if they are) and probally will be up around your peak on the torque curve... i was also practicing slipping it in to second a little bit so i didnt chirp gears n spin like crazy in to second... Hope this helps you... just a little bit of info from a FWD guy... hope driving RWD is simmilar... Have Fun and be safe

word... first is always fun... quite a panic atack if you go on your own... did pull a 2.2 though on my first time out with the probe

There isn't a person on here who can tell you what is going to work best. They can tell you what has worked for them, but your car, tires, track conditions are going to all make it completely different. Just put in as many runs as you can and get a really good feel for you car and the way it hooks.
