I am very disappointed with my latest Et's. The car is stuck in the mid 14's but has decent MPH. I didn't get to go to the 1/4 mile track this last time around and had to settle for an 1/8th mile. My best numbers for the day were a 2.2/[email protected]. I know the 60's need work. The launch and shift point were the only things I played with this last trip to the track. Still using the regular correction factors for 1/8th to 1/4 I come up with [email protected]. These figures are a little off from what I typically see at a 1/4 mile track. I can usually add 7 seconds to the 60ft and 5 seconds to the 1/8th for ET and be right on for ET, while adding 20mph to the 1/8th number. Even with the poor 60ft, I would expect to run quicker than the 9.2 I did. And much better than the 14.04 best I have at the track with a MPH slightly over 100.

I am starting to wonder if I should run more intial timing. I have seen posts with some people who say they are running 20+ on the sn-95 cars. For these times I was running 14. Should I try higher? click the number on the poll for the amount you run, and then post any experience you have with changes up or down! Thanks!

what octane do you run? ideas on how much carbon and other artificial CR raisers you have built up in the chambers?

I always run 93 in it. I don't like to take chances. I ran it with 20 intial yesterday and it seemed to like it, but with the added computer timing it was just too much to pull from low rpm, like 1200 in 5th. I tried 18, but the car ran so ****ty last night I couldn't really tell if it made a difference. The long tubes with the O2's out of place really don't like cool night time weather for some reason.

i dont know about your cars, but that seems like too much initial timing. BTW, ummmm, dont drive in 5th at 1200 rpm. :)

what happens at ~14-15* base timing? only other things i can think of is to use a tuner dealie (twEECer, etc) or run locked-out timing.

my two cents. good luck.

I don't like running that much myself, but if it works, it works. It was my understanding that the 94-95 cars liked a little more timing than the fox cars because the program in the puter is a little more conservative.

Honestly though as soon as I put that car at 20 I could notice the difference. I didn't even get out of the driveway before noticing how much faster it revved. Lowend torque seemed to pick up also. But as I said it didn't like to pull from low rpm, which to mean is a sign of too much timing.

As far as what it would do with 14. That is what I have run since I bought the car. And it would pull from 1200 in 5th no problem. I am going to go down to 16 tommorrow and drop fuel pressure also. Been noticing alot of post that guys are running as low as 30. I have been steady at 38. We will see what happens.

the way i look at timing is like a chain - you can only run what the weakest link will support. if it pings at any RPM, gotta back it off, even though it ran great the other 95% of the time.
remember that the puter will trim the a/f - if you lower pressure, it opens the injector pulsewidth. too low a pressure can result in a poor spray. i know you are experimenting, but i would leave it closer to stock (you meant 30psi with no vac, right?). that would be 22-24 psi at idle. little low for me. but what do i know. :)

good luck.

I have not heard it ping at all so..... I would rather be on the safe side than the wrong side. Quick drive with 16 seemed like the best compromise so far.

I did back off to 35 vacuum off on the FP. Though I understand the computer will compensate with pulse width I have found out several times that adjusting FP does work. The last time was when my IAC was hanging open and causing a lean condition. Since my CE light doesn't seem to work I never got a code. It took me a while to figure out it was the IAC causing the high hanging idle. This caused the lean condition that I tuned out by going to 45psi FP. IF the a/f is off tuning with FP will change it enough to make a difference. I am hoping this time that lowering it a bit will help the rich/lean condition the long tubes are likely throwing at the puter.

And I am just trying to buy some time until I can get a tweecer.
