Alright well it comes down to this... my clutch was squeeling once in awhile so i went out and bought a new clutch when i got the car... was gonna pay my friend $130 to put it in today while i was at class... i drove it to his house and it was squeeling so loud when ever i pushed in on the clutch... later i get a phone call saying he cant get the car up high enough to get the trans out and that he decided that he didnt wanna do it... by this time its squeeling in nutral... i decided to drive it home and take it to a shop... i have a clutch preasure plate TOB and i just picked up a pilot bearing... (to me it sounds like a bad bearing....) On the way home the clutch stuck and wouldnt come back up... car got a little hot so i pulled over and then it wouldnt start all it would do is make a squeeling noise andd crank:owned: ... was gonna call a frined and use his AAA but my g/f was able to push it enough to start it back up...:nice: :nice: (she kicks ass) i got it home.... but

here is what im faced with now a 205k car with stock motor clutch n trans... should i just pay my mechanic at home $250 for the clutch and fly wheel to get resurfaced... or should i buy this 96 or 97 explorer motor from the junk yard with 70k on itfor $500 and get him to put the clutch and everything on that motor and put it in for $500... i think he told me he knows the oil pans need to be changed ect... but if i get the motor i can sell my mint explorer manifold for like $200 and make some $$$$ back... what do you think... should i just go all out and go with a gt40P...???

Also... do the gt40p's stock exhaust manifolds fit up with our h-pipes...

what gains are you seeing out of gt40p's

I need answers quick! lol going at 8am to talk to my mechanic tomorrow morning... i asked him what to do... he said either it all depends if that motor is in good shape... i saw what it came out of... it was just T-boned.... so im gonna go make phone calls now... help a brother out....

I don't feel that there is enough info/diagnostics for anyone to make an informed post about what direction you might desire to go.

Unless you think you hurt the motor, I'd leave yours in there for now, unless you can take the hit on down time and any other issues that might arise.

Doing a clutch is a simple one afternoon affair. I'd do that first (based on what I could decipher from your post).

I know that doesn't help at all - it's mostly just a moral-support post.

Good luck.

well motor is running fine... just scared about the milage... im weighing pros and cons... i see it as being cheaper in the long run if i swap it now... $500 for motor $500 for swap... sell the manifold i have in my basement get $200 back... thats $800 if i go with a gt40p minus oil and other random parts... and while its out im thinking about a mild cam.... ect... while if i do the clutch now its gonna cost me $250-$300 in labor... hell for $500 i can basically have a lower milage motor in the car... it also saves me $40 for the gasket kit for the explorer manifold that i was going to put on and my time there... I should be fine without a car... ill be at school and have a bunch of exams next week... so i wont be leaving much... its just my bank acount is at about $1300 and my birthday and x mas are comming up... i will be cutting it close... but i think i might be able to handle it... is it worth the trouble to save me the trouble in the long run... is it worth the performance....

Id say go all out.

thats what my decision is comming to... i just gotta make sure i have the funds... im gonna go crunch #'s with my mechanic tomorrow morning... call a few places about motors ect...

but what ive read is telling me that if this motor is a 96' it has standard gt40 heads.... i dont know what type of pistons... im not sure if its even worth it then...

thats the problem... i have the clutch have everything.... but no way or help to do the clutch... my friend was gonna do it today for $120 or what ever but we couldnt get it up high enough to do it... i really lack the tools...

But anyone have any info on an explorer motor swap in to a 95 5.0??? what needs to be changed ect... from what i read a mildly cammed gt40p is capable of 250whp with some bolt ons....

does it matter what year i get it from??? i have an intake elbow adapter already... so thats not a problem but i might as well switch over to the explorer 65mm TB....

alright if anyone has info on the swap, whats best, HP, ect... anything to help me figure this out ...... opinions or whatever feel free to post... i just found another motor in pa from a 97 mountainer for $500 obo... so this is looking good as well

thanks i knew i posted in something like that lol!.... but yea how do you tell the motor date and differences between the gt40 and gt40P explorers... it seems like a great idea considering someone almost put down 300rwhp.... that is a hell of a difference... hell i swapped the probe motor for a 40hp gain... if i can find the right motor tomorrow with low milage for under $500 i might actually do it... hell ive had the car for a little over a month... and already have a **** load done... might as well keep up with the balls to the wall aproach...

won't you have to switch out the cam? isn't the cam in the explorer motors more geared towards towing and such? suprised you have a mechanic swapping a motor for 500 bucks, seems pretty cheap.

i would just replace the clutch and the bearings and call it a day. save your money for later things
