I hate jeeps, and pissing away mustang money on them

i dont need any tiny violins, i just dont get how jeeps have this huge cult. it just seems like somewhere out there someone would have said wait a minute, this is allot of work. im trying to see if im the only one out there that gets the jeep thing, and still doesent want anything to do with it.

get rid of it man. I had one chrysler vehicle(wont give a name to it) but it broke down every 3 weeks like clockwork. even the new parts that I put on it. I finally called a JY to haul it away and they gave me 50 bux for it. for a 2500 dollar car I probably put close to 2k into it in two years. some cars you just cant win with. ditch it and dont look back.

The jeep thing (to me) is that these trucks are beasts off road.. Cheap to fix (for the most part im talking wrangler and cherokee) and easy to mod and lift etc.

man i know the feeling. my dd is a 1982 bronco that was running just fine... then i decided to do a 4 barrel swap on that little 302 and she fought me and fought me and fought me. finally got her running and timed right and she decided to throw another wrench into the mix... she spun a crank bearing while i was trying to tune my new carb... so this week i had to go find a new heart for her. thankfully i found myself a nice newly rebuilt stock 5.0HO CHEAP that will become her heart, and give me about 100 more hp at the crank. so i know how it feels to get frustrated at the daily driver

Jeeps are a lot of work, the new Wrangler leak constantly and the older TJ's and such need their fair share of up keep, but Jeep people like to spend Sunday afternoon's wrenching away on them.

Jeep = Harley... Why would anyone spend 12-15 on a HD that handles like an 80's Japenese bike and still can't out run most of the metric liter bikes? For 12-15 you could have a FJR1300 that would dance circles around HD, but people are buffalo'd into wanting to be part of something in life. It makes them feel good inside; they're one of them now and accept the money and time that must be invested so that you can simply wave back.

I won't lie, I really wanted a TJ 4.0 to DD but as I looked and try to deal with dealers and other Jeepers, there was this snobbish attitude that demanded a premium price for a sub-par product. I even had a friend at a dealer tell me that I would be much happier with the long term reliability of a Mustang GT over a Jeep Wrangler.

I saved a few bucks and bought a 04GT with low mileage instead and am conviced that it almost walks through the snow as well (with blizzaks) as a stock tire wrangler would.

No one else really competes with Jeep in the Wrangler department, so that's why they can afford to ship out sub-par products at a premium price for a niche market.

If you look around though, most all 4x4's have major problems. Visit a forum of your next premeditated purchase and run for the hills LOL. Both Xterra and FJ have their fair share of problems.

in the end i found myself wheeling the jeep less than i wanted to, so i think a truck is just about up my alley, it wont get wheeled hard, but i do want to be able to get to duck blinds and through the woods and such when deer hunting. i think an 08 fx4 f150 with the luxury package ( auto climate, leather, ect) will last me a long time. ive seen allot of 5.4s running strong with 300k+ miles on them. my jeeps doing me good for now, i had to spend some money on it, over 400 bucks to get it to pass, and i just did the rear wheel seal the other day, that cost me way more than i wanted it to, its the kind you have to take to a machiene shop and have the bearing and seal and ring pressed on and so forth. but its all straight now i believe.

theres no other suv that really gets my attention like wj's do, if i did get another suv one day id probably invest in a 4.7 laredo (2wd, and 4wd, unlike the limiteds with all wheel drive) and id just bite the bullet and take care of it.

if i sold the jeep i have now and got another wj, i dont think that would be too much of a gain. mine has so many new parts on it, and so many problems fixed, if i got a 4.7 one id be back at square one pretty much.

the 4.7 is a stout motor. its got a lot of low end grunt and responds fairly well to being wound out.

my driveway is about a 1/16 of the distance yours is and not as steep and i had to salt and shovel the drive and back up to get momentum going before i got up it and i went up sideways lol, i wouldnt even attempt yours. unless i had something awd..
