Hey everyone, just wondering what everyone thinks about making my own intercooler piping for my fmic. I was planning on getting the couplers, going to a shop and getting 90 degree bend piping, 45 degree and some straight piping, and just having them weld it together in some spots and using the couplers for the other spots. Im going to use aluminized steel. Anyone have any suggestions? Good idea? Bad idea?

Perfectly good idea...that's what I did. Bought some mandrel bends and straight tubing, welded it up most of it, used couplers where needed.

I had one more question for you red. How exactly did you run your pipes?? The ones you made yourself. Because im planning on doing it this weekend but im not sure what kind of bends im going to be needing. I have a fmic and both the ports come out on the left side of it. So im trying to figure out the best way to run my piping. Any pics of your engine bay?? Or just what bends i need i.e. 90's 45's straight pipes and couplers. Any help is greatly appreciated.

My intercooler is like that too.

Unfortunately, i didn't take any pics of how I ran the pipes when I had the bumper off (and I really wish I had), although I don't know how much that'd help you since you'll have to run your pipes a bit differently.

Basically one goes through next to the radiator (I shifted the radiator over as far as I could) and the other comes up behind the passenger side headlight.

As far as bends go- if you can't find a "grab bag" or assortment of bends, you'll probably need 5-6 90 degree bends and some straight pipe. The nice thing about 90's is that if you don't mind a little cutting and welding you can turn them into any angle you want. My pipe is all made out of 2 1/2" exhaust pipe.

Ok sweet, so would i be running one of the pipes through through the fenderwell or should i just run em straight to the intercooler? I know its pretty self explanatory but im just wondering what way would be better.

Whatever fits...that's what you'll have to do. It takes some fitting and experimentation.

That's what I did, where I ran the pipes ended up being the easiest way to do things. Yours may be different because you won't have as much room up in the nose of the car as I do.
