if ur going to be on the 1/8th or 1/4th
ur going to have a better chance with an ls1 in the 1/8th.
1st reason there power band is allot higher then ours
2nd most of them blow the tires off one cause of no suspension 2 because they dont know how to drive because mom and daddy bought them the fast car they want.
If it is a LT1 there r chances after u get all that stuff done u might take it.
Also he might have drove that thing in to the ground and have probs with it and not know it.

I have a 95 Cobra with Full exhaust and 4.10 gears, and timing bumped and a very nice suspension and 1 or 2 more things. and i can put about 2 cars on them in the 1/8th but 1/4 is kind of hard.

No disrespecting to them at all it is just the truth our TQ come on allot sooner then theres does so at the 1/8th mile we do stand a better chance...... Been racing at 1/8th mile all my life. and the LS1's will run from 8.9's to 8.4's but there mph is way up. they just dont have the TQ off start not bashing just telling u where we do stand a chance.
Engine RPM is what determines engine output. Not the speed at which the car is moving or the distance the car has traveled. If the LS1 driver is able to plant his power from the launch, he will eat the mustang in all aspects of the race.
At the track, powerband location doesn't matter because you are in a controlled environment where you can put the car in its powerband. If I have a mustang with a powerband from 4500 to 6500, I'd launch the car at 6K and my tach wouldn't go below 4500. What you're suggesting is that both the mustang and the camaro start at the same RPM. In that case, you're right, because the mustang will reach the power band faster. A competent driver will negate any powerband arguments by starting and keeping their car in its respective powerband the entire length of the run.
Say the mustang has 300 hp at 6K and 300 trq at 4500. Say the LS1 has 350hp at 6500 and 350 trq at 5000. Do you think the mustang and the LS1 will launch at the same RPM? Of course not. Notice that power and torque are given as units according to RPM, not according to which transmission gear they are in or how many horsepower per feet traveled.

This doesn't make sense, because if you race someone at an actual strip, both of you will be in your power band the whole time. If yours is at 2000-3500 and his is from 7000-9500, you'll both be where you want to be from start to finish.
The only time the location of the powerband comes into effect is street racing when it MIGHT take an LS1 longer to reach their power band if you jump him unexpectedly from a roll.
More seat time will show you that at the track, LS1s typically own mustangs at the start, middle, and end of the race.
And to everyone else... don't disrespect the ol' Lt-Fun either. They will surprise you.

Am I the only one who caught this?? camaro 7000-9500RPM!?!?! Have you been puffing the magic dragon Dude?!?! No street camaro cranks that high even trailer queens will never ever see that high rpm. Anyways I dont care, I dont think those camaros are that fast. If I wanted to use the money in my savings I could take out street camaros if I wanted to, but I wouldnt waste my time or money.
It's all good, I actually use a similar argument to what you used about throttle body sizing.
I do disagree about personal experiences though. I head up to Epping, although apparently not this year with a 10 inches of snow expected this weekend, and I see F-bodies smack mustangs around all the time.
Maybe things are different with the chevy auto transmission sucking especially hard?? It's also noteworthy that with a 125 shot you instantly gain 200 ft/lbs of torque, which is a variable that has to be considered. I would say that your "powerband" is just a little bit different then normal!!!
