Is a Cougar a good donor for an engine swap?

Hello guys! Well my engine swap project has officially started. I've been doing some research and collecting some parts here and there. But, I'm still missing a donor. So I found a 1993 Cougar with the 5.0 engine. I was wondering if this could be a good donor for the swap. I've been looking for a Mustang though, but haven't had any luck.

What do you think/recommend? Thanks :nice:

Cougars have the non-HO motor... I wouldn't bother with the trouble...

hmm... thats interesting... my grandpa has a 93 cougar, and it has a HO motor in it... (not trying to call you out or anything, just pointing out that it could be an ho...)

I think all Cougars / Thunderbirds had independent rear ends starting in the 90's. You probably wouldn't want the hassle of trying to put one of those in a Mustang. A friend of mine just bought a 5.0L HO engine out of a 1992 Cougar over the weekend for less than $200. His plans are to put the engine along with a T5 tranny in an 84-86 T-bird. I was wondering the same about using the factory wiring harness for the project car because the donor car was an automatic.

The engine looks almost exactly like the 5.0L that came stock in 94-95 Mustangs.

Just my $0.02 :)

The rear end is IRS and will not work. Wrong width, wrong bolt pattern for wheels.

The engine will work. It is the same as a '94-'95 Mustang. FYI - '93 5.0 HO's have hypereutectic pistons.

go to www.stangparts.com you can buy a used engine for about $600.
And about that Cougar... i dont know.

Not to hi-jack this thread, but I was just wondering what 5-lug conversion kit you used for your stang because I was going to get the one from 50resto and put either Chrome Bullitts or Chrome Saleens on my stang, but most people have said that this kit will not work for the rims I am choosing between. Thanx, Jeff.
