i've searched, but have quick question on mech oil gauge

ok guys i searched around a bit (yes i saw the noobie posting video )

ok today basically i went out and got me a mechanical oil pressure gauge, and i basically dont know how to hook it up, i've gone over the instructions a thousand times, its a 15 dollar sunpro tach i just wanted to hook it up and find out whats really going on with my pressure, so if any of you guys have this gauge please a quick install explanation

Never hooked up a mechanical gauge, but I would assume it came with a fitting to screw in where the sending unit for your stocker goes and a hose to run from there to the gauge. I could be wrong but atleast this sends it back to the top for you.

Mechanical gauges come with a plastic tubing that runs from the stock sending unit area to the back of the gauge. You can buy a brass adapter that you can hook up so you can run both your stock gauge and the aftermarket gauge. Thats the way I ran mine.

well i know the bell shaped thing, the gauge didnt come with a fitting that goes on there, i've heard that u have to buy a T fitting so u can use the stocker and the mechanical gauge, i'm not sure what size it has to be, or how to remove the bell shape thing or what

To remove the stock sender just put wrench on it and unscrew it from the pipe that goes into the block. As for the fitting best thing to do on something like that is take the stock sender with you to the parts store and find and find a t-fitting that fits it. If you have any large home supply places around like Home Depot you might check there as well.

The stock "Bell Shaped Thing" is the stock oil pressure sending unit. You can unscrew it from the bottom. If you look from underneath you will see where you can unsrew it.
If you take it off then you can bring it with you to the auto parts store and fnd the right size "T" fitting.
If you have to drive your car you can just ask to see a stock oil pressure sending unit and get the size off it.

Plenty of people run them in there interior. I chickened out and ran an electric autometer since mine is on my A-Pillar and I wasn't gonna trust my plumbing skills with hot oil that close to my face. Even though my autometer is pretty accurate I am sure the mechanical ones are better.

You can get one at an auto parts store. It is ok if you run it into the interior but a better way is to buy a copper tubing kit from here.

i have copper tubing going to the interior and its fine. All it is is a tube going from where the stock sender used to be.

If you are mounting this gague inside the car DO NOT use the cheap crappy plastic line. It WILL fail. And when it does it makes a hell of a mess. Mech. oil pressure gaues are designed to be mounted outside the car. I'd personally go with an electrical gague. They are just as accurate as a mech gague. Get the copper tubing. It is well worth the few extra bucks.

TS answered this above. the parts store should sell Tee's in the gauge section (with the tubing, etc).

alternatively, guys will remove the hex tube and tap a hole for the mech sender fitting (cuz it is so small). i like electrical gauges, except for that the ones i can afford dont have 270* sweep (some Autometers do - very neat).

mech gauges come with tubing a fittings/ferrules for connecting the line. do note that copper can chatter on some gauges. braided line is probably the best route to go (and most $$).

Giddyup, i would respectfully disagree with your statement about mech oil gauges only being intended for outside mounting. for decades, mech gauges were the only game in town and were mounted inside the car. i think i might have misunderstood what you meant - but i do disagree with what you said, as i interpreted it.

huh?
im not sure what sort of kit you are referring to..??

the gauges come with all that is needed to plumb it (sans metric adapters, for import applications). one can buy Tee fittings and copper line in addition to the guages, if desired.
