Planning to add 4.10's to the car soon, however would this be wise considering I might go forced induction soon? This too much gear? Should I remain with my 3.55 stockers? Some of you guys with forced induction and 4.10's + chime in on your traction with street tires..

no force induction, but do got the 4.10's, and boy do they make a difference..

I dont have a MACH, but I would say that your only problem with 4:10s and forced induction would be traction. The MACH motor revs pretty high, something like 6800 in the 5 speed so I would think you would go through the traps in 4th with the above setup, but I could be wrong. If Im right I would think you would have one hell of a ride.

The Mach 1 has either a 6800-7000rpm rev-limiter. Thats plenty of rpms, even for a Mach 1 with a supercharger and 4.10's. Anything less than 4.10's would probably be a waste. You should be able to still run the 1/4 mile and finish in 4th gear. Just my thoughts. GoHoTo brought up an interesting point. You might not want to supercharge the car for "collection purposes" but thats totally up to you. Personally, I think 4.10's and a supercharger in a Mach 1 installed "properly" would be nice.

what happens to the shaker hood with a blower? Does it get bypassed?

Thats a good question but I'm pretty sure they can still use it with it. Actually, I'm almost certain they can becuase I seen on TV, there was an older GT(96-98) and it had both a shaker system and a supercharger(centrifugal).

I was told that the shaker hood gets bypassed with a blower by someone else. After looking under the hood of a Mach, I can't believe that it could be used with a blower.

It could get bypassed but I'm also sure you could do a custom setup and still get it to work.

Man you won't like this answer, but add 4.10's and leave the motor alone. That is a very special car with a special heritage. I would not add a blower. Collectors car some day.

Ford, not Ferrari.

Mod the damn car.

i have an automatic GT with a Vortech at 8psi. i have no problem spinning the rear tires from a stop. i can even spin them from a 35mph roll. and i still have the stock 3.27's. a forced induction Mach 1 is going to have a ton more power than my car. if you just get forced induction, you will have traction problems. if you get FI and 4.10's, you will have major traction problems. 4.10's are worthless if you can't get traction. they will especially be worthless with FI.

get FI first! get a feel for the car. you will probably come to the conclusion that the stock 3.55's are plenty. you will already have to shift fast enough. but if you do decide you still want 4.10's, you better build up one hell of a rear end to keep you from just spinning. IE: wider rims, bigger tires, upper control arms, lower control arms, springs, sub frames.

Thanks for the responses.. Vortech has a kit for the Mach 1 with an adapter (believe it was released already) that will keep the shaker functional.. However, I do think I'll go with the Procharger setup..

If I go with the 4.10's the whole rear end will be built to help avoid potential problems with snapping axles.

Mach 1's have solid rear axles right? If Ford is using the same basic design thats in my Cobra, then you have a very strong rear end stock. I wouldnt worry too much about breaking it until you move up to slicks with lots of boost. Just IMO.
