Mass Air REcalculator (Diablo Sport) ???'s

Technical Mass Air /REcalculator ???'s

So i'm looking through the Brothers Perf. mag today and run across Diablo-Sport MAFia Mass Air Recalibrator. $149.00 ...it's details say
"...allows the customer among other things to use their factory MAF sensor when changering to bigger injectors for high HP or s/c app's. The MAFia is an in'line plug-and-play that allows you to control ...the maf. eliminates the need for a special cal'd maf for bigger injectors. ..***it does this by recalibrating the signal output from your MAF. ...works w. 4 and 6 wire maf's, User selectable 8 settings for diff HP levels (stock to gangster level) <haha but that's in there too. ....led indicator of Maf Voltage Status shows if maf is pegging"

that is actuall me shortening it up a lil ha! .... but i wanted you to have all the info i'm getting.

My question to you more knowledgeable...
-Have you heard of, used, or seen in action ...and thoughts
-Is this a good thing? ...8 PRESETS (for hp level) good or bad thing? or is it presets for diff lb inj's
-Is this actually a good solution to recal or getting a new maf everytime you one up your car???

and...if is recalibration of a maf for bigger injectors just include upping the output voltage to the ecm from what the maff reads its flowing... couldn't someone with basic to moderate electronics wiring skill wire up and make your own one of these?????

if i'm asking to much...tell me, i just really want to understand this deeper..or direct me to more sites.... i'm interested in what you need for a maf and how it works (detailed altogether)

Secondly.... my thought behind this is.... couldn't you take the maf sensor and electronic mount (square part) out of the tube.... and if a similar mounting was there stick it in a larger diameter tube (ex pvc or metal or whatever) and.... bam you have a 76mm, 80mm, 85mm, even 95mm maf tube and sensor...??? and save...??? $299-$400??? (prices of C&L maf's)

I'd love some thoughts, critiques, knowledge... or direction... PLEASE! ..thanks guys!

It is a good device to have if your MAF is pegged (your combo won't peg the stock meter) and you have the ability to tune the car.

Trying to use it without any sort of way to adjust the tune will not give you the results you are looking for.

Maybe if you are electronic's whiz you can duplicate the internal components Diablo uses, but why go through the trouble. They work really well and are trouble free - a really nice design. We use them all the time on cars that peg the MAF.

You can use a bigger tube with MAF electronics to extend the electronic range, but then you'd have to develop a new MAF curve from scratch and that takes a lot of time.

You DO need to make several changes in the tune to use one, it is NOT plug and play as Wes said.

You absolutely, definately CANNOT do the same thing a MAF.ia does with a TwEECer, or chip. The MAF.ia electronically changes the MAF signal.

I never like to use them on anything over setting #3 (maybe #4 sometimes)because they then become difficult to tune because any adjustments you make tend to get magnified - increasing tuning time. On setting #3 you get 41% more range so with a 90mm LMAF, that'll get you to about 630 RWHP - which is plenty. I prefer to use a stock MAF and a MAF.ia for most applications - much easier to get good drivability. The stock MAF housing (diameter) itself on forced induction applications causes only negligible HP losses, if any.

They DO work with 89-95's too - you just need a late model connector and creative wiring.

I think the '05 and above slot style MAFs have a hard limit of 6v, even with a MAF.ia.

Sorry no reply... i didnt' get any for a while so i quit checking and thought it wouldn't get any.

Thanks guys for the replys! Don no i'm not an electronic wiz... but i didn't know exactly how it worked if it was just resistors.. i know a lil bout that kind of stuff so i figured maybe just a lil research and some math and maybe i could recreate something very similiar... i was considering just mounting the factory maf in a 3" pvc for my CAI and have no variance in sizes....

but you say i'd have to re-create fuel mapping curves to do that? (sorry, i just don't know much about it all yet) so i ask to learn. or where could i get alot or in depth info on this ? or fuel mapping all together? any good books or sources.

Thanks again for the replies and help
