May be going 5 lug!

Well I was hoping to get some input. My newest idea is switching to 5 lug. Currently I run draglites but after the switch Iam thinking about black bullits or black FR500's. After doing some research it seems to me that SN95 axles are slightly longer then foxes? For the people that already went 5 lug exactly what parts did you use? Here is a link to my car domain also so you all can see what the car looks like(if you dont already know) and vote which you think would look better(bullits, FR500's). http://www.cardomain.com/ride/771794

:D

I have done two 5-lug (budget) conversions I used stock length 28 spline axles, for the fronts I used 94/95 spindles, calipers, rotors etc. I think either wheels would look good on your car I would lean more towards black bullits because it's one of my favorite wheels

Have a read

Just a word on the rear axles. It's true the SN95 axles are longer but if you want to retain stock width you can purchase aftermarket brackets from North Cobras that will allow you to run either the Cobra or GT rear disk setup in the rear with stock fox lenght 5-lug axles (ranger or aftermarket)

If you run 17x8 wheels, the SN95 offset would be ideal as it will push the wheels out to the edge of the fender lip. If you decide to run 17x9 wheels, you want the stock fox offset as the SN95 axles will push the wheel out further.

i wouldnt change a thing on that car! mabye lower it a little and paint the hood but i looks badass the way it is. nice ride

are those 275/60's on the back and what backspacing are the welds?

Thanks for all the reply's. Mustang5L5, I just read up on the link you sent me very nice site. Heres my idea, the wheels will either be 17 or 18x9's up front and 17 or 18 10.5 deep dish in the back. Not sure if the rears would even fit....Anyways I plan on the front converted with all SN95 parts, and the rears Iam also not sure about because of the wheels size I wanna stuff under there. I have removed quad shocks so that wont be a problem, and Iam almost sure my exhaust will clear also. Here is a link to the wheels Iam considering.

Bullit 17x10.5 http://www.volpaz.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=79_114&products_id=180

25thmustang- Ill let you know if/when iam ready to sell them.

:nice:

EDIT: I may also lower the car 1" , and the car already has rear 4 lug disc I believe from a 93 cobra if that changes anything.

it may be tough to get a 10" or 10.5" wheel in the back.

I do know 18x10 wheels will fit as a few guys here are running Saleens or bullitts in that size, but i do not know of anyone who has sucessfully run a 17x10.5 deep dish wheel on the back of a Fox other than a Cobra R wheel which has a unique offset.

Go for the FR-500's in silver, get 18" all around, deep dish rears... I have a sneaking suspicion that it will look good :D

This was posted on Corral.net a little while back. thought it was funny cuz its very similar to your car. Wheels look amazing, probably my favourite affordable rims for a fox-body.

hemi_fan, that car looks great! Just think Black FR500's would be more to my liking. Thanks so much for those pictures, do you know what the owners name is on corral Id like to ask afew questions.

Shakerhood- they have been off as long as i have had the car and there is NO wheel hop at all.

Mustang5L5- Thanks for the info, but after seeing those pics hemi posted there must be a way.

Owner's name is 'stangmanr'.

18x9 255/35/18
18x10 295/40/18

Brake system/5-lug conversion is completely from a 84-86 SVO, and the spindles are from a 91 explorer if im correct.
There is some small rubbing on the rear tire. so i need to put back the stock springs, because i have the BBK drop springs.

from what i know, there was no modifications done, just rolling of the fenders to the max. But the whole setup was from an 84-86 SVO mustang, brakes everything. But on mine, there is some minor rubbing, only when i hit big bumps. So i need to put back my stock springs at the rear. well if you have more question, ill try and answer them. Peace

Jason

I asked him some questions when I saw those pics cuz I really want to put those wheels on my GT. those are his answers. Nice guy. I've read a ton of threads with guys putting 10" wide wheels on their mustangs. The 10" pretty much guarantee that you will need to roll the fender lips, and depending on tire size you may need to 'modify' the inner fender with a hammer. You can get a 10.5" wheel on apparently, but it takes a lot of fender 'modification' lol, and you'll probably have to run dumps because it'll interfere with exhaust.

Seems kinda iffy about the deep dishes...I really wanted to run them without rubbing too...

Well I did some more searching around on the topic. From what I can find it seems the SN95 front setup, Ranger axles and cobra rear brakes are the best bet to run 18x9 fronts(245) and 18x10 backs(275). Does this sounds about right? Are the ranger axles any good? Really want to run 17's but they dont make a 17x10:nonono:

The SN-95/Ranger set-up is probably the best set-up. You will want the front spindles from a 94/95 mustang though, not 96+ because 96+ are slightly wider and could cause problems. Ranger axles are good because they are the exact same as foxbody stock axles, except in 5 lug. You can only use one axle, I believe the driver's side axle from a ranger. The pumpkin in them is offset, so one side has a longer axle than the other. It is also possible to use Ford Aerostar rear axles. They're the same as ranger, but you'll want the passenger side axle. You'll want the drums from a 4-cylinder ranger, because they are a 9" drum just like the foxbody so you wont have to change any other rear brake parts.

For all the info you could ever want on this project, go here http://sn95brakes.cjb.net/

I plan on getting rear disc not the drums. Thanks for all that info, I think I can get the axles for free!

I think that is the same set-up as the SVO/Lincoln rotors, which means that the Bullitt rims will not mount up. The rotor will interfere with the centre of the rim and prevent it from going on. I've heard of people doing some grinding and hammering to the rotors/dust cap to get wheels to fit but I think it's safer to go with the SN-95 set-up. Im not a pro on this though, just get all my info from that link I sent earlier.
