more HP from bigger MAF?

Nope, not at all.. i've been on the lookout for a cheap one myself - unfortunetly I havn't run into one yet.

I just got a 70mm off of eBay for $26 plus shipping. $40 total. Add in $11 for the adapter and I'm paying a total of 51 bucks to upgrade from a 55mm to a 70mm. Not a bad deal in my mind.

A C&L has it's own calibrations aside from stock. Also, it seems some of you don't believe magazine numbers, but I'll post it anyways. MM&FF back in 02 picked up a solid 10hp/10lbs-trq. at the wheels all across the rev range when the switched from a 77mm Pro-M to a 76mm C&L.

I would not make any buying decision on 1 article from a magazine. I make my decisions over years of trying and researching to come up with a decision.

The best MAF I have used was an 80mm Pro-M plastic unit.

I even picked up on my stock motor with 19 lb injectors.

I'm not trying to disagree. A Professional Mass Air flow (Pro-m's new name) sensor is the way to go. But it's $100.00 to get it recalibrated so here is how I looked at it:

New C&L $130.00 - $160.00 on eBay for 19# Injectors + $30 for recal = 190.
New Pro-M $230-ish from their website for 19# Injectors + $100 for recal = 330.

Buying this used sensor on ebay for $50.00 already calibrated for 19# will save me about $50.00.
In the long run I will end up with a Pro-M 80mm calibrated for 30# injectors (hooked up to a small S/C) and I didn't think I wanted to pay for the recalibration.

My idea = 50+230=280-330= net savings of $50.00.... Plus in the end, i can resell the meter I bought increasing the savings to put towards more mods. :nice:

DO NOT believe those articles on C&L's, they've been tested a few times, at dyno's all local in NJ. The more you contribute, the better the articles written about you. I've known cars in magazines where they quote dyno numbers, and the cars haven't even been driven yet, or how bout a car that was wrecked on a Road Race track, and they only shot one side.

You can call almost any big name shop, and they will tell you not to use a C&L.
Sometimes they do work out, but the odds are against you.

Big deal, $100 for the calibration.
And if that's your worry, when it's time to upgrade because of injectors, sell the current meter on ebay, and buy the identical used with the right calibration. I've done this and lost zero dollars.

E7s can support 340hp. What's the point?

Just posted for reference, regarding the 55mm meter.

E7`s supporting 340hp.Can you clarify this some more?I`ve read more than a few articles saying that stock un ported E7`s will max out around 300 fwhp/na.

Do you mean stock or ported E7`s?

well foxfan ive read alot of your post and i know your young and on a budget. i dont think you will be building a very wild combo any time soon so i think a 73 mm c+l would work out good for you. i got a very good deal on one and i fealt a very good difference when i installed it. to give you an idea of the gain it was equal to say underdrive pulleys or an h-pipe.

I had a C&L then switched to Pro m.At full throttle it ran great;it was just the other 99.9% of the time that it drove like crap.

c&l = waste of money
This is an unfair statement. You're welcome to your opinion, but making this statement as though it is based on fact is ignorant. I personnally ran a C&L 73mm for over two years with absolutely no problems, and I know dozens of people in my area who can say the same- none of which were ever featured in magazines. I now use a ProM, but it has nothing to do with my satisfaction level with the C&L. It is no more "a waste of money" than any other brand. Whether or not it works well for you has a lot more to do with what you know (or don't) than in the part you use.

Stock E7s. They can SUPPORT 340hp due to a simple airflow formula:
.257xCFMx#of cylinders. They may max around 300fwhp on a 302ci motor. That doesn't mean they'll max out at 300whp on say a stroker or 351, etc. They've made more than that unported, but it's a formula. It's close, but not dead on.

When it all comes down to it for building a nice strong combo in MY OPINION I would go with the Pro-M meter. BTW what does a SCT meter mean? My friends got one on his 500+rwhp notch, is it just another name like Pro-m and C&L or does it mean you can recalibrate with a tuner or something?
