We need to do the Lady's 86. Her headliner is toast. She want it back the original gray vinyl.

Rockauto sells the ABS board only, but it’s a bit pricey. My cardboard is ok so I’ll roll with it.

Decided to take a closer look at my sunroof. This has been one my my favorite features Of the car and has been constantly used almost every time I drove the car.

Found the latch to be…..worn.

Trim bezel busted

The detents are falling out. Apparently the retainer is long gone. I actually lost one of the detents years ago. I found it under the carpet in the backseat amazingly just last week.

Hopped on eBay and scored a nice oem latch and bezel for $30. That problem solved.

The latch handle itself is rather tight and binding. Fortunately I have a spare

Wanted to replace the two pivots as the coating on mine is coming off. Unfortunately these things are just seized and not moving.

I managed to get one side off. As you can see that bolt is corroded. Those plastic brackets are unobtainuum, so not sure how aggressive I want to get here.

I might just have to freshen this up in place rather than strip them down, or buy the repops. Hmm

Finally, the weatherstripping.

When I had my car painted back in 2000, they installed some aftermarket weatherstripping. The part on the body was a cut-to-lenght strip, so there was a small 1/8” gap. Whenever I washed my car it would leak here a tiny bit. Drove my nuts.

I see Daniel Carpenter now makes repop continuous gasket which is correct. However mixed reviews on it.

As for the seal on the glass. It fits like crud and is too thin leaving a gap around the roof.

Then I found this. Both OEM gaskets are still available from Ford

Top one is the body gasket I really need. My dilemma now is $35 on the repop gasket, or $80 on the OE gasket.

Is this a “cheaper to buy the more expensive part” sotuation?

I did end up ordering two of those brackets and the oem roof seal. (The $80 one)

I’ll wait a bit on ordering the seal around the glass. I do agree the repop ones are very thin.

Ok. I may have gone a bit overboard…

Aparrentky Tasca ford listed ALL the sunroof hardware available. Most of it was decently priced so I bought it all.

I did not buy the glass mounted weatherstrip yet. I want to see what shows up forst.

I mistakenly ordered two of the right “Pivot” assemblies without realizing they were side specific. So I ordered 2 lefts thinking I can pair them up and offload them later. Easier to sell as a pair.

Let’s see what actually shows up. I wouldn’t be surprised if they email me back telling me this is all discontinued. Let’s see.

That’s these. I ordered one each

#11 in the pic and the other side

I ordered:
#2 (and opposite side x2)
#12, 13, 6, 11 (and opposite side) and the body seal (not shown)

I got #5 used on eBay. They had it but wanted $80 for it.

I just remember mine being cracked when I did my sunroof years ago, at the time I couldn't find replacements, I slathered blue rtv on them and made my own gaskets, haven't had any problems but I think I'll order a set for future use.

Got my hatch carpet.

This is the mass back Essex style material. LMR doesn’t offer this variety.

OE carpet on the right. The new carpet is darker

This carpet is heavier due to additional padding.

However it fits like crap. Lots of extra material around the edges. The worst is where the seatbavks fold down. The extra material bunches up in the quarter plastics and generally doesn’t fit well.

I’ll keep working it a bit, but I think this needs to go back. I’m not happy at all with how this fits.

Hard to capture how oversized it is, but I feel like 2” needs to be chopped off from the edges. It bunches up a lot where the seats fold. You can see in the drivers side rear it’s essentially riding up the rear panel area.

I threw it back in the box. Not happy enough with it for $150

OEM carpet back in. I’ll take my $150 and invest in a Bissell carpet cleaner for this and the main carpet. Definitely won’t be replacing that one now.

Somewhere on this forum there is some chatter about the lack of hood liners and/or repos. I can't find the thing but I came across this:

I'm posting it here so one of you guys can repost it in the thread I'm talking about and can't find. Cuz I thought it was this one.

Somebody might need to look at 86 and 87+ hood undersides to see if they would be suitable for AeroNose.

It's not OEM but...

'86 under hood pads are just flat panels, not molded like some of the later models.

Welp, Rockauto's return process sucks. I have to take and submit pics to show it not fitting. I might as well just try and sell this locally considering it will cost me $20-30 just to ship it back. I might just do that.

More bad news. One of my orders to Tasca was cancelled due to the parts being discontinued. They haven't cancelled the larger order...yet.

I did end up purchasing the Daniel Carpenter repro 1-peice sunroof seal. Hopefully the fit is spot on. I bought it from LMR. I know I sometimes know I get on LMR for the fact they resell parts store parts for 50% more, but that's how they can afford to give the excellent customer service that they do. The few times i've had problems with parts, they had a new one in the mail the same day and I didn't even have to return the old one.
