So your car was red inside from the factory? How thick of foam backing did the vinyl you used come with?

When I did the headliner in my Saleen the first time, the foam was too thin. I could not stand the way it looked with everything installed. I had to redo it with thicker foam material. Live and learn.....

Yup, my car was originally a red interior AOD.

I got my hands on a parts car with black interior and swapped it. I’m not sure I would do the same today. I might have tried to make red work with some nice seats and some other details.


The material was 1/8” thick. The sunroof area is definitely a bit tricky but I think it’s workable. I’ll find out tomorrow. Just need patience but I think I have it as good as I’m gonna get it.

My 93 sunroof Opal Grey has a vinyl headliner and vinyl sun visors.

Is your 93 a GT or an LX? Just curious if that is the difference in the visors?

I am really not a fan of the red interior unless the car is black. I dig black with red interior in the foxbody’s. But if I had a chance to go black with a complete parts car I would do the swap as I prefer black over all the other colors.

Sunroof body seal arrived. I thought it would be a Daniel carpenter part, but turns out it’s from “Fairchild industries” which is your standard parts store seal. We will give it a shot

Got some funky stuff going on where it’s vulcanized together

Done with the old seal. Was just easier to use the one already in the correct shape vs wrestling with the new one while glueing down the headliner to the body pinch weld

I’ll give it 24 hours to dry and then swap it to the other seal.


Overall, didn’t come out too bad. Some wrinkling in the front corners but I can live with that

Here’s the glass with the old seal on it. As you can see, quite a gap around it. The old original one was much thicker, but it dried up and fell apart hence the replacement that I swapped out around 2000-2001 or so.

I’ll try a new gasket down the road.

Ok. Last thing to do and then we Jack the car up for SFCs

Ordered some new pushpins for the door as popping them on/off a few times broke a few.

Some kilmat on the inner panel as well as the outer skin.

Ok couldn’t wait. Tested pulling up the seal and found the headliner was bonded to the pinch weld.

Pulled out the old seal and installed the new one

Ehhhhh….

Two front corners are the problem. Gonna see if it loosens up a tad over time and conforms better. In the meantime I’m keeping the seal I just took off. Maybe the cut to lenght ones are better?

Or do I pony up and do right…

So my car was originally a non-premium stereo car with speakers in dash and rear only. Along the way I added the door soeakers with speaker wire.

I tore all that junk out. Using OEM wiring now. I don’t use the radio, so I just want a functional oem radio install.

As expected, my OE door speaker wire was present, but taped up. I removed it, purchased an adapter to hook up to my alpine door speakers and that’s all set nowS

I found the other end of the door speaker harness just inside each door jamb.

However, there is no female plug to the dash harness. I went through all my pics of my dash harness reloom and there is none. I looked on eBay at an 87-89 dash harness….and found it.

I’m assuming there IS a difference in dash harnesses. The premium radio cars seem to have a little extra wiring for the door speakers.

Makes absolutely no sense as my car had the wiring for cruise control, and the 4cyl fan controller, but apparently not 4 little wires for door speakers.

Can someone who’s car is an original premium radio car look to see where this plugs in?

Here you go. Looks like it comes from the amp behind the console? White with lt green and dark green with orange.

Awesome thanks. Confirms my suspicions. The dash harnesses are different.

Looks like I’ll need to get some demaio connectors for this plug and tap into the dash speakers.

Currently in bed with the Flu, so nothing is getting done for a few days.

Ehhhhh….

That's exactly what mine did, at first. Most of it relaxed into shape after sometime. Still a spot or two that didn't fully reshape but I can live it(it doesn't leak)

Maybe a hair dryer or heat gun (on low setting.... be careful!) would "help" it relax. Get it a little more pliable and then it might take a better shape when pressed into position by the sunroof.

I haven't had good luck with Tasca. Seems like the website says it is available and then you place the order and it is discontinued...

Yea, I definately have had issues with parts availability from them. That's on the items that are not specifically listed as discontinued. Get excited because a part isn't listed as discontinued, so I order it. Couple of days later get an email saying that part is no longer available. So far I've received 5 of the 9 parts I've ordered from them. Still happy to get those, though. And the prices are great, considering what most people charge for NOS parts.

Also, they have saved me some headache by pointing out that 2 other parts I ordered were not for my car (based on the VIN check they do), even though my checks based on model, trim and accessories indicated to me they were for my car.

Well, crawled after bed after 2 days from the flu and managed to finish Kilmating the door. Door panel back on.

Gonna pop some meds and crawl into bed again shortly. But that stage is done.

Next up, SFCs. Debating on if I just try the jackstands to lift the car, or build wheel cribs. A 2x4 is what? $8 each right now?

When I did my Saleen 10 years ago, I used wheel ramps for the front wheels and then jackstands on the axle tubes. Seemed to work good. I am going to do it the same way on the 89 I got. Was planning on having my buddy weld them on for me sometime this coming week but it looks like it is going to rain for the next 10 days here in Oregon
