GRRR!!!

The booster HISSES when i press on the pedal!!! ARGH!!! Now i gotta take it out and do it all over again!!

It still stops nicely, but guess i'll pick up a 93 cobra booster now over the next few weeks. I hate doing things twice.

GRR, by the time i iron out all these little details it's gonna be September and time to put the car away for the winter

Ok, fixed a minor brake fluid leak. Guess i used copper washers a little too big and it didn't seat right. All set on that.

Found and fixed my exhaust leaks. Fixed my tailpipe rattle issue.

Was all set to go inspect the car and my brake lights don't work!!

I guess i fugged up the switch trying to put it back on the pedal after swapping boosters. Gonna see if i can fix it or i'll just get a new one. This a Ford only part or can i get one at Autozone?

P/N E6ZB-13480-AA

Also, couple other issues. My brake booster hisses. Pretty sure that means it's bad but i still have power to lock up the front wheels. I'll replace it though soon.

Also, seems my rear brakes aren't doing anything. What do you guys set your prop valves at? I have mine at 3 turns out.

Ok well got the brake light fixed, and got the car an inspection sticker. Now that it's road legal, i put 50 miles on it so far this weekend.

Prob to fix

1.) E-brake needs adjustment. Barely holds on hills

2.) Exhaust leak again

3.) Brake pedal feels a little firm. Car still stops nicely at speed, but lacks any "woah" factory. I have basically Mach 1 brakes..and from what I read, they come with a 1 1/16" bore MC from the factory, but with hydroboost. I am using a 94-95 Gt/v6 1 1/16" MC, but it feels little firm. I'm wondering if a '93 CObra 1" MC would give me a little more stopping power feel.

4.) Want to get rid of the FMS C springs and get bullitt springs. I want to raise the nose up a little have a softer ride

Well, i ordered a '93 Cobra MC from rockauto. I'm not comfortable with the Gt MC. I prefer it a tad softer.

On another note, where can i pick up some Bullitt springs?? Or maybe just a front set of B springs??

I hate the stiff ride i have with the C springs and wouldn't mind lifting the front up a tad. I want a cozy weekend car, not really into racing it anymore so handling like a go kart isn't as critical to me anymore.

Looks nice, but a tad on the low side

One other thing....I HATE 3.73's with the 5-spd.

I'm seriously debating 3.27's here.

Planned engine combo for later this summer...some of these parts I already have on the car, but this will be the final combo until i build myself a nice AFR headed 331 later down the road.

Cobra Intake
65mm TB
GT40P Heads
Trick Flow Stage 1 cam
Crane Cobra 1.72 rr's
Pullies, e-fan, cai

Shorty headers, high flow h-pipe, flowmaster cat-back.

As soon as i iron out some gremlins with the car (change to Cobra MC, adjust e-brake, fix exhaust leak), i'll start gathering the gaskets and other misc parts needed for the engine.

I just hate how i'm cruising around town in 3rd gear and it revs so high on the highway. I plan on attending some cruises later this summer, and it's an hour drive to these places i want to go at 70MPH or so. So i'd like a little lower RPM's.

Car is more of a cruiser first...i have no plans to take it to the track anytime soon. Maybe 3.55's would be good enough for me.

So i spoke to a few knowledgable brake people (MM for one) about my MC situation and the recommendation was I should be running a '93 Cobra MC and not the 94-95 GT MC .

SO i did some math out today at work

Let's look at OEM brake setups. I'll stick to vacuum boosted setup as the hydroboost setups have more assist and run a different MC bore.

1994-1998 GT/V6
Front calipers pistons = 65mm = 3318 mm^2 x 2
Rear caliper pistons = 38mm = 1134 mm^2 x 2
MC piston bore = 1 1/16 = 26.98mm = 571 mm^2

Piston area/mc bore area = 8904mm^2 / 571mm^2 = 15.6:1 ratio

1994-1998 Cobra
Front calipers pistons = 38mm = 1134mm^2 x 4
Rear caliper pistons = 38mm = 1134 mm^2 x 2
MC piston bore = 15/16 = 23.81mm = 445 mm^2

Piston area/mc bore area = 6804 mm^2 / 445mm^2 = 15.2:1 ratio

1993 Cobra
Front calipers pistons = 60mm = 2827mm^2 x 2
Rear caliper pistons = 38mm = 1134 mm^2 x 2
MC piston bore = 1 = 25.4mm = 506 mm^2

Piston area/mc bore area = 7922 mm^2 / 506 mm^2 = 15.6:1 ratio

1999-2004 V6 (vacuum brakes)
Front calipers pistons = 44.5mm = 1555 mm^2 x 4
Rear caliper pistons = 38mm = 1134 mm^2 x 2
MC piston bore = 1 = 25.4mm = 506 mm^2

Piston area/mc bore area = 8488mm^2 / 506mm^2 = 16.7:1 ratio

Hmmm...so you guys seeing a pattern here?? The lower the number, the firmer the pedal is as the V6 setup is a little softer than the 94-98 cobra brakes from expeirence

So lets do my current setup

5L5mobile
Front calipers pistons = 40mm = 1256 mm^2 x 4
Rear caliper pistons = 38mm = 1134 mm^2 x 2
MC piston bore = 1 1/16 = 26.98mm = 571 mm^2

Piston area/mc bore area = 7292 mm^2 / 571 mm^2 = 12.7:1 ratio

Hmm, slightly lower than the factory setups. Pedal is on the firm side and hard to lock the brakes

What if i swap in a 1993 Cobra MC??

5L5mobile w cobra MC
Front calipers pistons = 40mm = 1256 mm^2 x 4
Rear caliper pistons = 38mm = 1134 mm^2 x 2
MC piston bore = 1 = 25.4mm = 506 mm^2

Piston area/mc bore area = 7292 mm^2 / 506 mm^2 = 14.4:1 ratio

Closer to the 15:1 ratio the OEM setups seem to be. I'm going for it

I ditched the SN95 wheel setup i had. On a non-airbag car, the wheel was way too close to the driver. So i chose to put the stocker back in.

But, i wrapped it in leather first. Feels nice. Took me almost 2 hours to do though.

Looky...a rare non-cruise 87-89 wheel

I took the car for a spin this AM with the wheel and it felt comfortable. I def like it now.

'93 Cobra MC showed up. I ordered it from Rockauto.com. They have good prices and pretty fast shipping. If you guys can afford to wait 2-4 days for parts, def go with them over local parts stores!

So this weekend I'm going to try to install the MC, adjust my e-brake and fix my exhaust leak. Should be able to do it.

Got my new headlights on. What do you think??

Also, should I? Or should I not put the Cobra Grill insert on? It's all painted and ready to go.

Sorry for the bad pics...was losing the light.

One more pic with the new lights. I really can't decide if i want to do the cobra grill or not. i would think it would look nice, but part of me wants to keep the body stock. I like the look of a clean stock car, but wonder if a Cobra grill would not take away from it. Next time i paint the car, the Saleen wing is coming off and a stock LX wing is going back on.

I'd go drive to a lot and get some better pics...but it's like 100% humidity and 89 degrees out...so i'm not driving in a car with black leather and no A/C right now

Once i get things squared away...the A/C is going back into this car. First mission...new Evap core.

I still need to adjust the parking brake. It holds, but i gotta yank the crap out of it. When i release, it's too loose, so i gotta take up some slack. You can see why i need a good e-brake. For now, i'm doing the e-brake, shifter in R and TWO chocks behind the rear wheels until i get the e-brake adjusted right.

Changed some of the interior plastics around. Changed out my sill plates for some black ones in MUCH better condition. Also, scored the Late Model resto kit with new push pins for the kick panels.

I was going to swap kick panels until i made this interesting observation.

Left is a kick panel from a 1990. Right two are from a later year. When and why did ford make a change to the kick panel design after 1990? Very weird, but as a result i could not use the newer panels because the carpet did not go up that high.

So these may go on Ebay now.

I also swapped to a better condition glovebox and gave the interior a full vacuum.

I need to pick up new A-pillars for the driver's side to ditch the gauge pod, a new shifter bezel and boot and figure out my radio and gauge setup and then the interior is done.

LaserSVT said:
The kick pannel thing was because of having more wires for the air bag. Caused the older pannel to buldge out by the computer. The drivers side got changed to match the new angle thats on the passenger side.

So whats the problem? Shouldnt see up where they stop anyway.

Prob was the carpet wasn't that tall on the edges, so you would see the wires and stuff behind the kick panel.

My black interior is mostly from a 1990, so it's 1990 OEM carpet and the kick panels were from a 1990 as well.

I snagged a new dash and those kick panels from a 1993 vert in much better shape. I swapped the dash and when came time to swap the kick panels, i noticed they were different. Both sides were higher than the 1990 panels, so it showed the edge of the carpet. I had no choice but to keep the 1990 panels unless later carpet came up higher?

I need new floormats BTW...some nice clean black mats with the running pony on them

A new spoiler and wider rubber out back and it will be pure sex! :nice

What spoiler would you run? If anything, i want to put the stock LX wing back on. I need to find one, hopefully already painted black.

You just know those Ford designers had that in mind when they came up with that unique headlight design.
