Scoops are bonded in . I sanded the driver side to bare metal ,so far only a couple of very light dings in the peak and a pucker on each side of the rise at the rear ,see how pretty bare metal can be

Looking a lot like brushed stainless ,it is all bare metal ,except the two scoopsand they are powder coated ,i should have sanded them down before bonding in . It is beautiful

I’m surprised no company ever made a version of this hood before. It doesn’t make any sense considering they make ‘71-‘73 Mach 1-style hoods for late model cars.

I love this thread. Excellent work!
Curious on how you will be able to release the hood (steel or fiberglass) from the mold when it has the contours of the inner part of the scoops?

The inside of the scoop is actually tapered ,large in the front and smaller inside so there is nothing to grab as it is pulled out

As much as i hate bondo ,this was the only way to blend in the scoops . I still have some fine tuning but they are almost finished

I got the scoops blocked off ,they will get cut out after each fiberglass hood is made ,i built the up thebottom edge all the way around the hood 3/16 so it will have a finished edge for the fiberglass hoods . It is in epoxy primer and soon the block sanding can start

The epoxy is dry . I will let it set acouple of days before i block sand ,i have a couple of places to fix ,one of the ribs running along the inside edge of the driver side scoop is a bit narrower than the other side and i didnt quite bring the center of the V in the peak high enough so it has a flat spot ,other than that it should block out the first coat .

First block sanding with 180 grit ,everything is good and flat except two what looks like thumb prints at each corner in the rear. I got the lines straight in both scoops and the peak of the hood . It will primer one more time and then it will be wet sanded starting with 400 ,then 600 then 1000 and the top will be done ,still have one scoop to block out

Wet sanded and mold waxed ,this is not the same wax as car wax ,much thicker and harder to remove swirls . I gave it two coats of wax ,i dont want it sticking in the scoops . A little prep work in the morning and spray the liquid mold release and around noon i should be ready for gel coat ,since i mainly use white and somtimes black on my parts ,i think this mold will be gray

From the looks of that corner of the shop , I guess that is where the fiberglass happens...alot.
