Did I just screw up? I got new rear tires for my 98 GT Vert and Firestone talked me into getting 275/40/17's and leaving the orig 245/45/17's up front. Now after reading here about performance and safety issues with the 275's I am a bit concerned.

After reading a ton of old posts it looks like alot of ppl use the 275/40/17's. Is there a noticable difference other than speedometer variations between the two (45 vs. 40's)?

Edit.

The difference in diameter between the two tire sizes is .08. Not very much at all. I know several people with 275s out back and 245s up front, me being one of them. I've never had a problem. You may have to have a performance shop mount the tire though. Most places won't accept liability to put the 275 on a rim any smaller than a 9''.

Overall, I don't think i've ever heard of any failures due to have a 275 wide tire on an 8'' rim, just my .02.
