Alright, went to the Lebanon Valley Dragway for their Musclepalooza yesterday. Took our 3 "race cars" out there to have a little fun. My car was spinning bad. Ran 13.8 on the limiter in 2nd gear, then switched to a slower class and went too fast at 13.32 slamming the brakes hard on the top end. Dialed a 13.50 and decided to just baby the car. Realized I could spin, and miss gears and run 13.5s all day . Went a few rounds, but lost with a 13.54 on a 13.50 dial, go figure.

For the fun part .

Dads 393 stroker car. Simple combination, 351 truck block, non forged crank (393 inches all together), truck rods, SRP pistons set up for the bottle, Untouched AFR 185s (the upgraded version), 690 lift solid roller (slightly choppy 900 RPM idle, pretty tame for the numbers on it), Vic Jr style Ford Racing intake, and a custom carb from a local guy. All in all a very budget build on the motor.

The chassis is a simple 8 point caged 91 LX. Rear seams welded, sub frames, 8.8 with a spool, axles, c-clip elims, and 4.30 gears. Adjustable Uppers and Lowers, shocks and struts, tubular K and A-arms, manual brakes and steering.

The best part about it, it's a stick shift car. Jericho 4 speed with a Mcloud soft lock and vertigate shifter.

First time out with it yesterday, having only run it once before and never able to floor it, it went like this (my dads words from another forum).

Pass 1 off the trailer. I decided to make a easy run just to see if the car would go straight.
3000 rpm launch.
Granny shift all gears at 5200 rpm
If the car is going straight stay with full throttle. It did stay straight.
And the results are.........
10.67 @ 123.99
1.62 60'
6.89 @ 104.44 at the 1/8
The car nosed over about 100' before the finish line. I thought it was running out of fuel because it shut off before making the turn off. Started it back up and drove to the pit where I added 1 lb of fuel pressure. As per my engine builder suggestion.
All felt good and I was happy with the results.

Pass 2 feeling good and decided to up things a bit.
5000 rpm launch
Shift harder, but still not power shifts. Shift point upped to 5600 rpm.
Run it out the back half.
10.45 @ 131.02
1.54 60'
6.77 @ 105.47 in the 1/8
Car still nosed over at the finish, but seemed to be a little close to the stripe. Added another lb of FP.

Pass 3 not caring whether I win the round because this was just a shakedown for the car. Actually I had decided this was my final pass regardless and decided to lean on it a little harder. I put a 10.30 dial in on the window figuring if I break out I will be happy with the results.
5400 rpm launch
6200 shifts, still not power shifting.
Run it hard the whole track.
10.13 @ 130.92
1.39 60'
6.49 @ 106.89 in the 1/8
and the car still nosed over right before the stripe. This time I noticed it acted like it was flooded when I tried to restart it. My diagnosis that it was running out of fuel was wrong. After some quick calculations by Jay it seems that I'm hitting the rev limiter. I had to use Randy's 27" M&H tires because it was the biggest tire that I could get that would fit under the car and this proved to be my undoing. Mathematically speaking 27" tire and 7000 rpm = 131 mph.

All this and the track alttitude was about 1850' according to the temps.

"Cliff Notes" Dads 393 stroker race car went 10.13 @ 131 with a 1.39 60' on it's 3rd pass since the suspension was finished. Granny Shifting it, short shifting it, low RPM launch, running out of fuel on the wrong tire.

I know it hasen't run it yet, but I would with confidence say 9 second all motor stick shift car. We should know a week from Thursday though . Was fun watching a fox hatch, on some bigs and little with a cowl hood out there running with the big blocked cars with 15"+ wide tires and autos.

Very nice! 10.1 on all motor is a beautiful thing!
What kind of tires were you running on "your" fox?

18" Falken FK452s. Same ones I've been 1.91 on. I went 2.06-2.07 a few times yest, but found it easier to run 13.5s if I spun to 2.2-2.3 60's. It's not easy short shifting and granny shifting a car to then hit the brakes and go half a second slow.

You just should have ran it to see how fast she would go. No need to tell us about bracket racing skillz! J/K,, pretty good for street tires. Get some DR's for that bastage.

I tried to borrow some 17" DRs but the kid had them on the car and I didn't want to put hundreds of miles on them.

I know what the car does on all out passes at that track, went a string of 13.0s -13.1s there last year and on my 13.32 on the brakes, would most likely have been a 13.0-13.1...

I was more happy going, trying to bracket race and watch the dads car run low 10s.

That's awesome! I love bracket racing, 2 years ago I entered my first and only competition. Mustang vs Camaro, there were about 8 stangs and a few more maro's. Make a long story short I was the last mustang standing, there were 4 cars left, me and 3 maro's. I went up against a 1969 10 second Z. We both cut 049 lights and it look kinda even. At the end he passed me and jammed on the breaks to take the win. Good times!

I actually hate to bracket race, I'm a heads up racer through and through. I have never put down a slower dial in, until yesterday. I also hate full trees, a pro tree and heads up is the best way to race. But thats just me.

Looks like a fun day. I am going to Milan to watch June 14-15-16. I'm going 1 of those days. But I want to get to Lapeer soon with one of my notches. I miss drag racing.

I actually had more fun drag racing when the car was more stock. The way it sits now it just isn't a fun track car. It will run 12s all day on a tire and low low 13s on the radials, but you don't get that feeling like I did when it was more stock looking and feeling.

I get a much better rush in my brothers 86. Can't wait to get behind the wheel of the 393 car .

Banging gears into the high 9s should be a hell of a time!

I know what you mean. I liked driving my 96 Cobra when it was stock more than now that it is supercharged. I used to run consistent 13.56+ all day long at 106MPH. One day I got a 13.54 1t 106.59 and I was stoked.

Now that it's superchraged, I run inconsistent 12.5's, and 12.7-13.0 if I spin, which I usually do. I haven't been to the track since Sept 30th, 2004.

Yeah, not sure what it is...

Also I figured running low 10s all motor would be a big hit, I gues not on this site. Maybe if the old mans car ran 12s or 13s everyone here would love it .

What front and rear suspension does your dads car have. Im having a very rough time getting my car to hook, even on the freaking 28x10.5w's.
