Got the block out ,it is a 65 289 all standard . Have a bit of notching on the lower skirts for rod clearance and it can go in for the rest of the machine work ,soon as we get the stroke kit

This is the greatest thread, you are pioneering everything I am trying to figure out. How much do you normally spend on machining the block and what transmission setup are you planning to use?

Been a couple of years since i built a motor so i am sure the machine work has gone up . The block will be bored ,cam bearings installed after i notch the skirts for rod clearance ,the rotating assembly will be balanced and i will do everything else . We are probably going to use a race preped Art Car C4 for now then swap out to a top loader

Jim, I may have overlooked it on some earlier pages but what cubic inch stroker are you building? Am I correct to assume that a 331 would cost somewhat less than a 347 and is the 331 more durable? Thanks, Greg

Ok ,we have been waiting months on a 347 kit ,it never came so we decided to just build a nice 302 instead . I had a standard bore 65 289 block ,it will get bored .30 over . I also have a nice standard 302 crank that will be turned .10 under . Nick ordered .30 over forged pistons with rings , .10 rod and main clevite bearings .got a new melling oil pump to keep it all oiled . Bought a new MSD dist. ,i already have a new 6AL box .
Cam shaft is ordered and should be here in the next day or two its a comp cams 280H ,i really like this cam .. bought a new harmonic balancer ,28 ounce of course !.
New Headman headers set up for 4 speed . I have a edelbrok performer intake .
We are going to use stock 65 heads for now until Nick can afford a set of performer heads ,i will port them before it all goes together .
I should be taking it to the machine shop here in the next day or two to have the block bored .

Well we are finally back on Nicks mustang! It's been a while! Nick is inside grinding a few welds that I didn't grind in the new floor. .
Nick is taking the crank ,rods and pistons ,new balancer and fly wheel in to be balanced then it assembly time.
I finished tacking the outer wheel tubs to the quarter and Nick buffed them smooth . Next week end Nick is going to reblast the engine compartment and up inside the dash ,a little seam sealing and we are ready to epoxy and start the little bit of body work . Nick said he is ready to go so let's do it!

Looking good! Have y'all gone into the cowl on this one? One of our '66 coupes currently has no cowl top or bottom. It looks like it would be a good time to blast the backside of the metal dash.
I have the two piece cowl kit from Dynocorn for another coupe that is a '65. Is Dynacorn making a '66 version yet with the "eyebrows" above the wiper holes?
We are exploring the possibility of having someone make a 2 piece pos/neg die tool that could be screwed together through the '65 wiper hole and tighten the die tight, to press the '66 eyebrow into the '65 Dynacorn top cowl panel. Jim @horse sence , have you encountered this issue in the past?
