A fuel pump ,thermostat and a carburator kit and soon as I run the valves it will be ready to put on the run stand and fire it up .
Primed it with an air drill and hit 50 pounds so we have oil pressure
I set the motor in the start up stand ,after I bought a new lift plate because someone through my other one out! Now to get all the little stuff hooked up !
I mounted the radiator in the stand ,sand blasted and painted the bell housing, backing plate and the pullies .
I had a new old stock thermostat housing ,its cast iron so it wont warp like the chrome aluminum ones do . Had a brand new set of genuine chrome accessory alternator brackets I bolted on . Got out the brand new 28 oz flywheel ,just need some new bolts and bolt it all up
Thermostat is in ,spring into the block like it is supposed to be.
Fly wheel bolted on and so is the bell housing .
Alternator bolted on and the pullies all line up .
The new starter should be in so I will check on that in a bit.
With the plugs out I can turn the motor by hand from the front pullie so we have no binding anywhere.
A bunch of little loose ends and we can fire it up and piss off the neighbors ...ah ,good times!
Starter cam in ,o o o oreilies auto parts !
Even got the right one! One more check on the list!
If you didnt know ,the manual transmission starter is different than the automatic ,snout is shorter!
We have a kit ordered ,should be here this evening ,went with the alcahol kit because the new gas eats up the excelerator pumps . Still need a bunch of smaller items before we can start it . Fuel pump ,several intake plugs ,adaptor for the temp gauge ,fan belt ,hoses and antifreeze ,spark plug wires . Still have to do some work on the header flange ,maybe by next weekend it will fire!
I cut that ball and socket end off the headers and welded a new thick flange instead . One head bolt hole on each side did not line up so had to clean up the holes a bit and everything fits ,starter ,bell housing and block so no denting needed .
I had a set of bullet mufflers I bought just to start my 35 ford pick up years ago ,thats all they were used for ,I had to cut the flanges off and reweld they so they fit better ,they will be perfect to fire it up . Welds are kind of ugly because I couldn't get the ceramic coating of but they will be good enough to run . Hope to fire it up this weekend !
Radiator hoses on ,fan belt on ,carburator studs in place ,by pass hose on but I need a fitting for the intake to hook up a jumper hose for the heater hose outlet to run it back to the water pump just for now .
Fuel pump and plug wires will be in tonight so that should just leave kitting the carburator and setting the valves ,hope to fire it Saturday.
Fuel pump is in ,plug wires are on but not happy with them ,short wires are to short, long wires are to long and no coil wire!
Bypass hose hooked up . Just leaves adjusting valves ,filling with antifreeze and kiting the carburator . Should be able to fire it up tomorrow .
50 50 mix of water and antifreeze ,that block has not had fluid in it in over 30 years ,no leaks ...yet!
All the plugs in the intake ,just pipe plugs for now . Bought fuel line ,throtle return springs and a genuine 1 gallon start up stand fuel tank from harbor freight. Let's get ready to hear it rumble!
Got the carburator kitted ,fuel hoses routed and the valves adjusted ,hit the key switch and nothing ,figured the battery was dead so hooked it to the charger . Hit the key again the the solinoid clanks but nothing at the starter, tested for power and its good so that means that brand new autozone starter is crap ,going to pull it back out and pull the top to see if they forgot the bendix pin ,but i bet its just junk so no start up today . Primed it again and get a solid 50 psi for oil pressure with just an air drill
