old 302 & 88 intake

i have an old 302 i got for $50 out of a '73 bronco years ago sitting on the garage floor at a friends house (that I forgot about) and recently aquired a stock '88 upper and lower intake that i won playing around on ebay. i was wonndering if they would work together or if I should just sell the intake. I want to build the 302 and put the juice to it but have no idea what combos are good. Have a 90 lx vert with 155 pump,aftermarket fmu, u/d pullies, o/r h-pipe w/2 cham. flows and a stock motor plus afew other little mods. would like to use old 302 block and have it machined. Any suggestions wuold help. Thanks.

You can't use a roller cam in that block.

so would be better to trade it off or barter then???

It's really up to you I guess. I think there's a conversion kit to put a roller cam in a original non roller block....but it's probaby a pain in the neck....and pricy.

i'm kinda on a limited budget, so i probably wont be able to do that. What about the intake?? are there ways to get better airflow or performance out of them?? i.e. grind or dremel down any roughspots per say??

Wrong, you can use a roller cam in that block. You just need to get a small base circle roller cam, from Comp or Crane, and then drill t small holes in the lifter valley to bolt the spider to. The cam will cost about the same as any other roller cam they're all a little pricey and you can get the roller lifters, dog-bones and spider on eBay for 20-50 buck. You will also need pushrods from a roller motor.

Or you could go a regular base roller cam and use aftermaket roller lifters but they are 3-400 bucks a set

good deal, i wuold like to try to use the old block, save some $$$$. I'll be looking into those for my Christmas present to myself. much appreciated!! Should i try to use that extra stock intake i have or just buy a new one. thanks again for everyone's help.

To save some money, you could go with a flat cam. Not as good as a roller, but you can still make plenty of power with one. Look in my sig!

right on, thanks for the info. sorry it took so long to reply, had to go see a friend with worse luck than mine at the ER. i most definarely will be looking into it. it snowed and things are freezing up so it'll be in the heated garage til early spring. Thanks again

To answer his original question, which didn't involve the cam, yes, the upper/lower efi intake would work.

Honestly, pitch that engine, it's a complete pos. It's factory rated at 141hp, and you're gonna have to build the **** out of it just to get it to stock hp levels of the later roller engine years. I know nothing about the roller "conversion" other that my trusted friend says the kit to do this properly is expensive. IMO, ditch the block and start off with a roller block. Nowadays, roller engines cost nothing. I just gave one away (practically) in perfect running condit for $350 pan to intake.
