Each person will have to choose which way to delete the air pump. Delete kit, short belt, whatever. You can search for all the options. And the vaccum lines are self explanitory to block off. Just cap them or stick a screw down in them. The back of the heads is another decision. Buy the right bolts, or cut the pipe up and flip the collection chambers over. I also think the intake block off is pretty easy to figure out. You need a piece of metal with two holes in it for the bolts. Make it or buy it, it's up to you. But if you have questions just ask.

Capping the bung is another big debate on how to properly do it. Here is my method. Use it if you like, or do it the other ways.

I plan to replace my stock manifolds when I pull the engine. In the mean time I wanted a CHEAP solution to plugging the EGR bung without tearing up my stock manifold. I have a very limited amount of tools, and I'm not a mechanic.



First step for capping the bung nut. I bought a Freeze plug #555-061 for 59 cents.

BEFORE inserting the plug, I used a punch and hammer to notch the rim of the plug. Then I lightly hammered it into place. I used an old rachet handle in the cap and hammerd the head of the rachet. Try to keep the plug level to get it to seal correctly.



If you want some added security you can fill the nut with JB Weld up to the threads and let it set overnight. I am sure the JB Weld will last as before using the freeze plug idea, I previously had JB Weld in the pipe with no metal backing and it lasted 1.5 years with constant pressure and heat before finally cracking and creating a leak.



Here is what the finished install will look like.



Now for the sensor....

To keep your Check Engine Light from showing you will need to keep your EGR sensor attached to the harness AND push the plunger in half way.

I've heard of some Zip Tieing the plunger, but I tried to find a better way. First find a Toy Vending machine lid. Don't laugh yet, you will be amazed at how well the small ones fit. And a hose clamp.



At first I just rigged the sensor with a hose clamp like this:



The above method is adjustable. You can tighten down the hose clamp where you want to make sure you get it half way.

As you can see over the course of 1.5 years the pressure from the plunger and the heat got to the lid. Time for reinforcements!

In this last pic I added a little Plastic Weld in the top and placed a penny on top of it. Plastic Weld (VERSACHEM CHEMICALS - PLASTIC WELD) is like $4 and is very useful, stinky, but very useful stuff.

how about just getting the right size brass cap from home depot to cap the egr bung on the header, thats what i did. not to take away from your creativeness but i think just getting the right cap is a million times easier.

Or you can buy a 5/8 flare nut from Lowes for like a $1

looks good. the only thing is when i did that i had problems. some have had luck with it and i know others have not. give it a few days and you will see if it will work or not. for example i was getting 180 miles to a tank when i normally got 250+. the car pinged alot. what kind of performance chip do you have? if you have a way to turn the egr off in the computer you will be fine but if not you might run into some problems.

Do a search... You can't get the metric threads at Home Depot. I didn't have to chance ruining my threads like most people do. and it only cost 59 cents. I had some old JB Weld in my tool box, so I threw some in there just for hell of it.

I did this a couple years ago, didn't have any problems, actually the car ran 10 times better. The EGR went out on my car, that's why I removed it. The chip does not have the EGR turned off... if it did I wouldn't need to leave the sensor on it.

$0.59 + Self Labor = Cheaper than $1.00.












J/K .... If I ever delete the EGR, I'll just get a cap from Lowes, though.

i couldn't find a flare nut that size at my home depot

i understand a penny fits perfectly in the egr nut too. that with a little jb-weld would probably do the trick nicely too.

I just posted this for fun really.... I almost did the penny trick, but I've read too many pennys that melted.

Kinda funny that the EGR bung is the part most want to talk about. I like the sensor part better. Not sure why I thought of the toy vending lid.

Thanks... I was just messing around with what I had available and where I was. Oreillys is close and I needed to replace a vaccum line anyway. Actually surprised I didn't have a freeze plug in my tool box too.

I never really thought about upsetting Wazee... Sorry man!

I paid about $999 more bux to turn my egr off

HOWEVER

It did come with a nice little self tuning feature

I hope to get a tuner some day... turning off the EGR is one of the benefits for sure.

As for the sensor side I used a wire nut for home wiring (yellow one I beleive) I pressed it on with a vise and threw a small hose clamp on jsut for reinforcements... I had those lying around...

however

Its only fair to point out

Laptop & WB is needed with this method of Self Tuning

If one wants to be self sufficient
and
In complete control of their tune

btw, I think I saw someone say they paid $580 so I guess the price has gone up

cool idea with the freeze plug.

i used the homedepot 5/8's cap for a few months then i installed some fox unequal headers. no egr bung.

i did the rio5.0 trick for the egr sensor.

Wow that thing is huge now.

Yeah, I plan to install fox headers when the engine comes out.

when my headers were off, i cut the bung off, and welded a cap flush.... no more leaking etc...


i used a vacuum fitting that is shaped similar to the toy thing on the egr, but i think it is causing problems and i am gonna remove it.

So has anyone thrown a multimeter across the sensor in question to find out exactly what kind of sensor it is? surely it would be much neater just to have a resistor, or similar, going across two points, that messing around with caps and such?

Arggh, I detest not having a car to work on, I'm wondering if the little Japanese dudes who loaded my container onto the boat accidentally put it on something with sails instead...
