Since I'm using the GT40p heads (early ones with the internal EGR, so '97). should I use the plug gap listed for a '97 5.0 or stick with the '90 Mustang 5.0 gap? I'm not sure what the '97 5.0 explorer one is yet..

Plug gap is really dictated by ignition. You want to go as big as possible before you start getting misfire.

The explorers used DIS with two coil packs. Their ignition was a bit stronger so the gap is a tad wider.

I'd stick with mustang gap, but if you go wider and it still runs well...send it
