Question about throttle body swap

I've seen a few members here who have posted their "problems" doing a throttle body swap, specifically with the removal of two screws that I believe hold the TPS(?) in place. What was done to get the screws out or would it be easier to just replace this item to avoid stripping the screw heads. I don't have access to impact tools for what it's worth. Aside from the 2 screws, is there anything to be cautious of during the swap?

Good ?s. I should be doing my TB next week. I don't think you need an impact wrench though. If a screwdriver won't fit you'll never get an impact in there.

A screwdriver will fit, but it's recommended to remove the screws when the throttle body is out of the car, according to some other members here who've done the swap.

I'm thinking I might be better off just ordering a new TPS (if that's the part that's screwed onto the T/B). This way I don't have to risk damaging the screws. Besides, I've got about 17K miles and hear it wouldn't hurt to replace it.

My method was:

1. Choose a screwdriver that fit the screw with little slop. The tighter the fit, the less chance you will strip the screw.
2. Make sure that as you turn the screw driver (slowly) it is in the screw perfectly square and not at a angle.

I did this and if you exert enough force and choose the right screwdriver, you will be rewarded with a slight "pop" as it breaks loose. If you choose the right tool and don't strip the screw, you're all set.

I first tried using a good screw driver with no luck, then cut a slot in one screw using a cut off disk, unscrewed it with a flat head driver, that did not work on the second screw, so I just ground the whole head off.

What is the TPS & where can you get 1? Though I don't think I'l go that route. Just curious.

It's the Throttle Position Sensor, and you can order one from the dealership or any vendor who sells OEM parts. I like the idea for 2 reasons. First, for the reason i posted this thread. the other reason is in the event I sell or trade my car, i'd like to be able to replace the aftermarket stuff with the stock stuff. I won't have to dick with the screws again this way.

I don't know either but I just checked UPS tracking & my gears, shifter, & clutch will be here Tuesday. Great timing! Except if my wife's gonna help me get to work I'll have to wait 3 weeks. So I guess I'll be walking.
