Roush Quick Question about Saleen's Worth...

ok, looking around on the local dealer's lot today and they have 4 left over 2004 S281 Convertibles left on the lot. I called them after I got home to check on how firm the pricing is on these things? WOW! $39,999 is what they are asking for all 4 of them. No Supercharger, just a standard S281 Vert. Is this way too high? i know they are "new" but they are amost 3 years old at this point. they told me they are on "consignment from Saleen"? not sure if it's true, but i have been told by a reputable Saleen guy, and he says $30,000 max is what they are worth, even though they have never been titled. I could see the 30K but no way 40K.

Dealers can be such tools.

Do they really think there are consumers gullible & ignorant enough to believe that Saleen "consigns" cars despite the fact that Saleen actually produces them?!?

Sometimes you just have to :nonono: when confronted by some of the outrageous tales told by dealers to their customers.

Is this the Ford dealer on Peter's Creek parkway? I looked at a Mystic Cobra a few years ago when I was in the area. Way overpriced! If they have had the car this long they are in the hole BIG TIME on it. Each month that goes by they have to make payments to Ford on it. Plus they have had to pay inventory taxes. If they were smart they would cut their losses! Much longer and they will have payed for the car completely.

I paid $39,900 for mine 12 months ago, vert with a blower, new....also a leftover at the time. Now, one year ago and with a blower in grey, couldn't pass it up.

I can just hear the value of those cars depreciating as the unsuspecting buyer drives it off the dealer's lot "ching cha cha ching cha ching."

By the time they get home and park it in the garage they will be out 10 grand.

......no different then any other car you buy new. Does the value of our Saleens drop the second you drive it off the lot new?? Yes. Does the value of a corvette drop the second you drive it off the lot new?? You bet. Bottom line, your buying something that will depricate the second you take owner ship: Saleen, 07 Shelby GT500, Z06, M5, etc etc etc. I don't understand why everyone can't seem to get that fact through their heads. You think our cars take a huge hit. 30 grand is nothing.....My brothers M5 took a 30k hit in six months and close to 50 grand in less then four years!! I don't see the big deal in buying ANY car new. Let someone else who pockets 200k a year take the hit for you and then buy it used from them. It doesn't matter if these mustangs are "collector cars" they still depricate just like any other vehicle.....

I have to agree. If you like it - buy it. If you can't afford it - get a new job or get a second one if it means that much to you. If you want a car you are guaranteed to make money on or keep your loss to a minimum - you better stop looking. If you want an investment - play the stock market as there are NO guarantees. There are a lot of posts going around that seem to state that everything is TOO high. My instinct tells me there are lots of buyers looking that simply cannot afford these cars. The good cars are not going to be given away either.

If you want to make a better investment on a Saleen - get an S351 Speedster like I did and wait 8-1/2 years if you can. As well - bring your chequebook because you will need it with lots of funds as they are not FREE - but well worth the purchase. I did not buy my car to resell, I bought it to drive for the next 30 years and enjoy - it is a specialty car and that is its function. If it is worth a fortune when I am done with it - I guess I am as lucky as the Hemi Cuda owner who paid $6,000 for his car in 1971!
