Well, id like to upgrade my gears from the stock (2.89) ones that i have now and go with a stronger rear - 8.8 or 9. Ive read that i could get the rear end from either a 96-98 mountaineer/explorer or a 77-80 lincoln versailles, but im not sure if there is any truth to these claims. Another thing is that id like also upgrade the drums that i have now with disc. I think that both the rear ends (versailles and explorer) come with disc brakes. So id be killing to birds with one stone. Are these rear ends compatible with my mustang, and if they are, what exactly do i need to do to get them to fit. If anyone is interested, I got the ideas of the lincoln and ford rear ends from this thread - http://forums.stangnet.com/showthread.php?t=516156&page=2&pp=25. Id appreciate any feedback, thanks in advance.

Well, you dont need anything stronger than a 8" rear with a 289. Swap that 2.79 chunk for a 3.25-3.55 and you'll be better off.

You can put a 8.8 in there, but you will have to cut off the spring perches and reweld them....its not impossible by any means, but its a project. If you dont like the ratio in that 8.8, you will have to pay ~200 to change it out, just like any 8.8 Mustang rear (unlike the 8 or 9 inch which comes out as a unit).
